Hello guys
Last weekend during pull with my sti 2003 fully built engine gtx28 the car shoutoff and wont start so i took it to the garage we opened the engine and we see that it melted piston cylinder 1 . But what can cause a piston to melt if my AFR was 11.2-11.3 (wideband) i run 98ron with meth injection and the meth work 100% i have manley rods manley 92.5 pistons BC cams 272 bc valves bc retiners bc valves and springs id 1050x injectors . I want to rebuilt the engine but i want to know what can cause this . Thank you

Well it's it's melted it means you likely leaned out, or maybe an injector broke all together
Wideband measures all of the cylinders together. So it's possible one cylinder was super lean while the rest were fine, and your tuner didn't pick it up on the dyno with only one WB. If you want as accurate fueling as possible, you should to add individual widebands on each of your header's runners, as well as a MAP sensor for backpressure correction. On my Link ECU, adding 4 widebands is fairly easy with the Link adapter, but depending on what engine management you're using, it can be more complicated. Talk to your tuner - also see what they think as for why the motor failed. Did they build it too? |
