Jay....I think SOA needs to put a warning buzzer with a flashing light and a marching band somewhere that alerts people to this one....

Yeah, heaven forbid people actually...*gasp*....READ the owner's manual to the $20,000+ high performance vehicle they just bought.

Or do like I did shortly after getting my car (ie, in the dealer lot) - try every switch to make sure I understood what it did (beyond what the manual said).
Doesn't everyone do this? -y |

I know I saw that button and was like "What" is that doing there? So I immedately went to the manual to infer further. How can you not look at the manual, I slept with mine the first night I got my suby!!

Thank God for nasioc!
I just finished installing a TT next to the useless cupholder in the dash. I tested all the functions and it works perfectly. So I figured that I might as well detail the interior while I had all the plastic off. You know where this is going..... After going for a test drive I noticed the parking lights were on. I thought the TT was wired wrong and I was about to start ripping apart the dash. Luckily this is a sticky, so (like always) before I got into another project it I checked good 'ole nasioc. Whew, thanks guys! |

After I rewired the foglights and disabled the DRL's, that button on top of the steering column is redundant. |

This reminds me of a question we get frequently over at AR15.com from newly joined members with a post count of <10 - "what was that gun that Al Pacino used in Heat?" , to which we only do the whole eyeroll thing.
Back to the thread's topic though, this one got me the night I brought the car home. After I played with all of the switches I set them all back the way I found them. My wife jumps in and screws with everything and the parking lights won't turn off. After briefly consulting the owner's manual, I discovered the switch and thought "wow, I wonder how often that happens". Cool feature though. I could just see folks running to a forum looking for answers. |

when i got my car that's the first question i asked the salesguy. he told me it's for when you pull over to the side of the road to look at a map or something and you are stopped. legally you aren't allowed to use your flashers unless you need help. and since subaru has the feature where if you take your key out all lights go off, they needed atleast a couple lights that stay on.
for example you pull over to the side of the road at night and want to leave your car there for a bit and walk into the woods for whatever reason. you don't want to put your flashers on b/c then a cop might come by and think you need help. when in reality you just wanted to go pee in the bushes. and you take your car keys with you so noone steals your car. that is when you use the parking lights. |

ahaha, this is only really funny to me because my parents had problems with this in both the legacy they owned from 97 until 2001 and the brand new 2001 outback forester they bought as well. my father was so pissed that subaru hadn't been able to fix the problem with the parking lights over two generations and both times had to hard-wire a switch that ran through the firewall. he'll be so peeved to hear this.

I've actually read the manual on this, but never touched it or used it, except today, took it to a car wash, and i guess they touched it by accident. And i thought it was the water got into my electrical system. wheeeww.... |

Well thank God for the internet!!!
Just figured it out - was about to rip apart the fuse box. I accidentally found the "magic" button when trying to raise the steering wheel to get to the damn fuse box. Gee whiz. I bought it used with no manual, so there you go. I can't believe some of you freaks actually read the manuals. I read National Geographic. :OD Thanks truly though to those of you who offered condolences !!!! |

Heh, I couldn't figure it out for about an hour or so. This was prolly about a year, year-and-a-half ago though But it was more of a "I can't find the damn button" problem than a "WTH is going on" problem.
