I still want to know where Subaru/STI came up with the peak torque RPM:

Quote:
Max. Output
341 hp / 6400 rpm
Max. Torque
330 lb-ft / 3600 rpm
Maybe a typo? and they meant 4600 rpm?

It's not clear that S209 could survive even a single summer HPDE event at Willow Springs on its stock tune. Subaru did such a half assed job on this "racecar for the street."
It will survive; but only with, at least, half the tank filled up with 100/110 AKI unleaded race gas. That's the only way.
Running straight 91 Cali pump gas at the track, in the summer, is pretty much head gasket suicide .

They should have just fitted a catless downpipe, tuned it for race gas, and skipped the pretense that it's a real car. It could have been Subaru's answer to the Civic Type R TC racecar.

I'd hate to own a S209 in a warmer climate with only 91 octane fuel available. I can only imagine how it would perform on a 100+ degree, hot summer day here in California on 91 ACN. They couldn't even take it to redline on the stock tune without experiencing power loss due to knock.. even in 40 degree weather.
Now we know why each review and test gives such different performance numbers with the S209. It was probably knocking like crazy to pull a slower quarter mile ET than the 15 STI they tested a few years ago***128514;

Yes, but did they swap the downpipe before they tuned?

Amateurs.

CN: Import a GC8 with a working engine for a fraction of the price.

Performance difference on same gas for same price highlights why the S209 is a car nobody asked for.

This just reinforces what everyone is saying about Subaru lately. Stuck in the past with inferior technology. I love my 12 wrx, it was a potent car for the price back then. But that was almost ten years ago.They need to step up there game big time with the next STI!***128552;

The STI is fine. It's still relevant. Double the price and it's not. Audi managed to understand this concept. Making a car have garbage turn radius so that it has good stability on a race track or giving a car a bigger turbo that performs worse on the same gas is the reason every other thread on the S209 is closed.

Certainly a far cry from a track car. Not a great performer @ the VIR, FWD based chassis and auto only.

We are so fortunate here. You can find high quality 93 everywhere and it is dirt cheap right about now .

All I'm saying is for Subaru to still be a performance bargain like they were 10 years ago, they need to up the performance a bit in the next STI and WRX. While keeping price inline with that performance increase....

Not getting slower with each refresh would be nice.

Depends on what track you have in mind. Straight, big, small? It's .7 seconds a 4 mile lap slower than the Type RA.

TTRS has the same hinderances as the RS3: FWD based chassis same engine and auto only and manages a 2:58 at VIR. Far cry from a track car platform?

Want to run 9s in your Subaru? What will that take? Stock turbo all day for the RS cars.

Except that it looks like the S209 still knocks on 93, according to COBB.

I'll bet that is the peak boost RPM, and it just got lost in translation

Very true....projections are predicting that gas prices are going to drop to 1.00-1.50 per gallon, in most areas....because of the oil price war and even more so now because of the recession that is starting...that is going to decimate the demand for gasoline, and currently all the close downs limiting stores and schools that are open and thus an influx of less cars traveling. Its the perfect storm for the lowest gas prices upcoming in many decades. I wonder if pump race gas will drop proportionately? I want to try the cobb race gas tune on my 06

I just knocked off a sub 4 second 0-60 in a 20 year old Viper with 107k miles and the only non-OEM power adders are headers and a lightweight flywheel. Burned through the 1320ft in 1.5 seconds less. Why is this relevant? Because it's currently for sale at half the price of the S209.
