Thanks a lot. The only difference I see in the manual is that it says to first push the pedal down and hold it, open bleeder, close bleeder. Pretty much like you said. But then it says to push the pedal down AND up several times while the bleeder is still closed. Then open the bleeder again. Close bleeder and repeat that same process. I guess it could work either way. I'm guess once no more air comes out, I close the bleeder, bring the pedal up and it should stay up?

Default Broken pitch stop firewall mount...

What was the fix for this mounting point issue? Did they weld it back on?

More so, does anyone have any evidence of this being a pre-2015 issue? I've looked all over the interwebs, haven't seen anything yet.

Finished the clutch line. Pretty easy, ans so was bleeding it. I followed the above steps as per the manual and it didn't take too long. The stiffness of the clutch pedal seems to be the same as it did before. Should it feel stiffer with the SS line? I'm just trying to figure out if I bled it enough. It looked like all the air was out when I finished. I just want to know if I should be looking for it to feel firmer than it did before or is it ok that it pretty much feels the same to me?

mine ended up a tiny bit stiffer and the slave cylinder made creaking noises but that's probably because he got rid of the air bubbles that were there from the factory

Hmmm. OK, so maybe mine just didn't have much air, if any, in it from the factory. I still have to install the rest of the brace. I just wanted to get the clutch part out of the way. So when I have time to get back in there for that, maybe I'll do a couple more cycles of bleeding to be sure I have all the air out. But as far as I can tell my clutch pedal seems to be grabbing at the correct point during shifting and it's popping right back up.

Subaru issued a TSB in January. Also, read back in this thread as there's a bunch if good info about it. You can check out the TSB for 2015+ models here:

http://www.subispeed.com/instruction...ching-stop.pdf

I think most people, myself included, are opting to install the perrin brace as a preventative measure rather than chance having the factory mounting point break and rely on Subaru techs to gut the entire engine bay to install their updated mounting bracket. The car probably won't be the same after that.

As for this also being a problem spot on older model WRX's before 2015, I have no idea.

I posted in this thread a bit ago about suffering from this issue.

I took my car to the dealership to see what they could do about it. I'm full bolt ons and on E85, and the dealership didn't bother arguing with me about it being covered under warrant (luckily.)
The dealership had to send it off to a body shop in order for the bracket to be welded in. It took about a week and a half to get my car back due to them apparently having to remove the motor to weld in the bracket.
The thickness of the bracket is noticeably thicker, so hopefully no more pitch stop problems for me later down the road.

Same thing happened to me. But I was worried that the "creaking" was as a result of me introducing air in to the line even though I bled it to death.

Guys with the Perrin transmission mount installed, what did you do with this thing?

I assume you are asking about the spacer? It is used on the Pre MY15 WRX's 5-speeds as the the transmission housings were smaller than the STI 6-speed housing. There has been considerable discussion about whether the 2016 WRX 6-speed needs it, since its transmission is based on the old 5-speed, but with an extra gear. The consensus-even from Perrin-is that you don't need it.

Make a paper weight out of it there is no need for it on your car,

Yeah, that. That was my understanding too, I'm only asking because I really don't feel much difference with the mount on, only more sound. I was beginning to wonder if the spacer needed to be on to further aid in feel. I do have a bunch of other drive line mods though.

Subaru, for whatever reason, sought to use a pitch mount as well, kind of like some FWD cars using a third engine mount (basically a pitch stop mount) to keep the motor from rocking excessively on hard shifts, axle tramp, etc. Perhaps the purpose of the Subaru pitch stop is to limit upward motor movement during aggressive 0 and low mph acceleration since there is so much traction. With that said, there can't be a whole lot of structural safety consideration since the OEM unit is plastic and the chassis mount has always been basic sheet metal.
Agree with these points, well said IMO.

How much would it cost to get all the mounts installed professionally? Roughly...

I ordered the Perrin pitch stop mount reinforcement bracket as soon as I get the TSB letter in the mail from Subaru. A local shop charged me one hour in labor to install it ($80) even though it took them more like 1.5. I gave them the instructions, a bottle of Subaru brake fluid, and it was no big deal. It's a difficult job to screw up.

I also had them replace the pitch stop mount with a Group N part while they were in there cause why not. Slight increase in cabin noise (already had Group N tranny mount in) but nice improvement to driveline lash esp. in first gear with the stiffer pitch stop mount.

*EDIT* I would have done the job myself but shied away due to having to bleed the clutch line.

I just ordered a 2018 WRX Limited - which SOA said will arrive in September this year.

My question is this:
Has this issue been fixed by now for 2018's or Is the perrin pitch stop brace still recommended for new models?

Thank you

I just saw your edit to this post, and to prevent anyone from being worried about this, i bled my clutch in about 5 minutes with no special tools. all you need is a bottle, hose, and a 8mm wrench. when the pedal goes to the floor and stays you can just lift it back up. make sure the bleeder is closed of course the longest part was intercooler removal/installation, which is not hard just annoying. i had three massive bubbles in my clutch, now the fluffy feeling at the top of the pedal is gone and it shifts better.

i have not purchased this bracket, and i'm considering doing it now because despite having bled my brakes and done a bunch of other mods this mod seemed like a gigantic hassle. no more.

This was apparently fixed on MY17 but I haven't seen many people with 2017's chime in. I've been in a holding pattern until I see more instances of 2017's and upgraded pitch stops.

You can look up the tsb and will tell you how to see if you have the thicker version. I believe in 17 they are fixed

Take a peek at the drivers side of the pitch stop mount if there is a 7/16 hole it's the new version and will be 2mm instead of 1mm

There is a post somewhere that lists the VIN where the changeover occurred. From what I remember it was about mid way through the MY17 production run.

Edit: Here's the link to the TSB: http://www.subispeed.com/instruction...ching-stop.pdf

This.^^ It was corrected in late June, so any 17 with a production date after then should be solid. unfortunately mine fell under the warranty as well.
