I hate to beat on a dead horse here... BUT... If there is a way for you guys to market to the 2002-2004 crowd, there is a massive demographic for that. Juuuuuuuuuust sayin....

To make the system work with an 02-04 an owner would have to do the console swap from an 05-07 WRX/STI. They would need 5 of the pieces. Basically everything except the stereo/climate control area. Even though we replace the area around the shifter, you will want the 05-07 shift boot to snap into the trim. It was a long time ago when I did the swap on my 02 Bugeye, but I also remember possibly having to swap something with the e-brake handle. The swap is necessary to fit the 10.1" screen since the stereo/climate surround for the 02-04 just isn't big enough to fit the screen underneath the top vents. Our 7" model would fit in the existing 02-04 without any modifications. Our next challenge is to figure out how to change the cable/rod driven selectors for temperature/mix and vent selection. This is something that we've worked through for the FR-S guys to swap over to where Brainiac can replace their existing manual climate control. It was a matter of swapping out the cables for two actuators and a new transistor that amounted to about $185 worth of parts. I've been looking into the 02-04 WRX since I also own a bugeye. I've ripped out my AC so I typically don't use my climate control, but I would like to find a solution. The question is really around if the 05-07 servos would fit onto an 02-04 heater system or if you would have to replace the entire heating unit. There's a point where it just becomes too much work if you have to rip apart your dashboard So far I believe I've found the servo motor for the inside/outside air mix: http://www.subarupartsandaccessories...11-720-03.html And I believe that this is the motor/actuator for vent selector http://www.subarupartsandaccessories...11-720-02.html Still looking for the temperature selector motor... From the diagrams it looks like it is the same assembly, just some of the parts didn't come with the 02-04 units. But I haven't confirmed those yet, or how hard those areas are to access. So it's a bit of a work in progress yet on the research to retrofit some electronics that we could use to control for the 02-04. Last edited by Workshop12; 07-31-2015 at 11:17 AM. Looking at it further (and ducking my head under my bugeye dashboard) I think we would need the following parts:
Mode 72122F - LEVER-DEFROSTER: $6.20 72124A - LINK B: $8.45 72121 - SPRING: $5.76 72122G - LEVER-FOOT: $6.36 72124B - LINK C: $5.84 72124 - LINK A: $6.20 72143 - MOTOR-ACTUATOR MODE: $72.17 72185A - TAPPING SCREW & WASHER (x2): $1.10ea 72185 - SCREW: $0.45ea Total: $113.63 Mix 72122N - LEVER-MIX: $6.03 72185 - SCREW: $0.45ea 72143B - MOTOR ACTUATOR-MIX: $89.67 Total: $96.15 Outside Air Mix 72185 - SCREW: $0.45ea 72223C - SERVO MOTOR: $64.18 72185A - TAPPING SCREW & WASHER (x2): $1.10ea 72215A - LINK-BLOWER: $6.42 72216 - LEVER: $4.23 72216A - LEVER A: $4.23 Total: $81.711 So for just under $300 you would have the parts for the swap. Again, I'll have to confirm that this all works. But it sounds like a fun experiment |

We just posted some more details in our "Inside Brainiac" series on the Workshop 12 Blog. In this post we go into some more details on button designs and our philosophy around combining physical and virtual interaction paradigms.
The button belt design is pretty much finished off, but we're still working on the positioning and lines for the 05-07 WRX/STI trim pieces. The early renderings that we posted don't have the modification to the design where we will have a sweeping curve across the top of the button belt to look better with the design line on the bottom of the screen. But we wanted to post up the renderings to give some insight on our iterative design process. Blog Post: http://workshoptwelve.com/2015/08/05...utton-designs/ |

As an update, here's the change we've decided to go with for the curvature of the line above the buttons. The grills on the left and right are for a microphone and an air temperature sensor

Here are a couple more renders of the final design for incorporating the button belt into the 05-07 WRX/STI dashboard trim. The 3D printer is whirling away creating a couple of the bottom sections to be ready in time for ImportFest on the 22nd

It has been a crazy last couple of weeks as we made the final preparations for ImportFest and the Toronto Subaru Club HyperMeet, but what a great first experience of having the actual product in front of car enthusiasts to check-out in person.

We should be starting our FRS/BRZ scanning soon. If there is anyone out there local to the GTA/Mississauga area that would like to volunteer their car for us to scan that would be great. Basically we take apart the trim just like we were doing a stereo install. We then apply scanning stickers and 3D scan it all into the computer.
Here's an article describing the process if you're interested. We did our WRX/STI scanning on a dashboard that was totally removed from the vehicle, but all we need to do with a volunteer car is remove a couple of trim pieces http://workshoptwelve.com/2015/06/24...c-3d-scanning/ |

BRZ/FRS Update
Even though we don't have the 2D mock-ups ready quite yet for the BRZ/FR-S (hopefully later this week), I already know that we're not likely going to have enough room to fit the 10.1" screen and the hazard/passenger airbag light all in the same space. This is ok, and was entirely expected when we started work on the car We expect this to be the scenario in a few cars that we come across where we will need to relocate a hazard switch to make room for the screen. Our plan is to make sure that you don't have to do any wire splicing to make everything work, just simply plug in our wiring harness and we'll take care of the rest. The goal is to find a nice looking switch that should both fit in with most vehicle interior designs and also with our Brainiac styling. We "think" we've found one that is our front runner and we wanted to give you an early look at the switch. We'll be using this one as a guide as we start to dial in the 3D models to figure out the best location. It snaps in from the rear of the trim panel so the button appears to be recessed into the face of the trim. We wanted to share photos of the switch early so that you had a chance to weigh in. No decisions are made yet, but as far as switches go I think this one is dead-sexy!! |

The initial revisions of sketches for the FR-S/BRZ 10.1" Brainiac screen are now up on our blog. We have more revisions yet to come as we continue with the sketching phase and then start to move our design directions into the 3D model.
Sketching gives us a chance to quickly revise and experiment with different looks so that we can start to narrow in on something that "looks right". Our blog post shows some of the revisions during this process Blog Post: http://workshoptwelve.com/2015/09/30...sbrz-sketches/ |

We just had a suggestion come in via Instagram on the hazard switch location. The suggestion was to replace the current AUX port down in the lower pocket with a hazard switch.
We have multiple USB AUX ports on the back of Brainiac (including a high amp charge port) and a bunch of audio integration options. So the question is this.. how important is the AUX port to you if you had all of Brainiac's options? |

We just posted up an other round of BRZ/FRS design sketches and lots of details of how we work through the design decision process.
We're still working through exactly how we want to incorporate the hazard switch in the lower pocket area. We think we just might need to re-design that area so that we have something that works well for both push-to-start and regular pocket configurations. I have an 04 Sti. It has automatic climate control but with the older 02-04 dash style. I'm assuming my climate control is all electronic? So would I be able to use your 10.1" unit with only needing to replace the 5 interior trim pieces and not have to replace any climate control hardware/internals?
