2015 WRX shifter vibrates in 4th gear
I've noticed that I can feel vibrations in my shift knob when it's in 4th gear when I'm on the accelerator. It's not so bad that you can visibly see the shifter vibrating, but it's a pretty distinct feeling with you hand on it. I don't feel much of anything when it's in any other gear, totally smooth. This is my first car with a MT so I'm not sure if this is normal or not? My spidey senses are telling me that it's probably normal and happens because the linkage may be arranged so that the 4th gear position provides the least vibration damping between the tranny and the shifter. Anyone care to chime in?

Man some people are dicks huh. I wouldn't worry about it. My 4th gear does the same thing in my Wrx and I've been on that tranny for 6 years.

If you cant see the vibration, then you had to feel it,which means you are really leaving your hand on the stick too long. Your hand should be back to the to steering wheel (or close to it) before you engage the clutch.

Def. Another point to make is that the slight play in shifter bushings could be what you are seeing. While the car is off, if you put your hand on the shifter and move it just slightly does it wiggle at all? With engine vibrations to the transmission, you can see this |

It's normal for the shifter to vibrate. The cable shifter crap has been nothing but 4th gear vibration complaints since it was introduced on 2010 lgt. I even had to replace a whole trans by subarus recommendation and it still vibrates. Keep your hands on the wheel and left foot off the clutch pedal and there will be no problems!

In my 2015 I got the STI short throw shifter and just put in a Perrin shifter bushing and still notice the vibration. But I also notice that when in 4th and you bush the shifter towards the left the vibration lesions. Does anyone else notice this??

it only vibrates when in 4th gear and not loading the engine and the vibration is minimal at that. my advice: ignore it.

Just the thread I was looking for, apparently it is normal. I don't ride with my hand on the shifter but I can audibly hear the vibration which is annoying.

Same here, I have a Boomba sts, Perrin shift stop and their brass bushing. There's a lot of times I have my hand on the shifter especially in heavy traffic on the freeway.

There is no problem.
If you feel the vibration it means you're putting pressure on the shifter, which you shouldn't unless you are actually shifting gears. If your hand is just gently resting on the knob without putting any pressure or force in any direction, you won't feel it. |

Had to reopen this thread
I do feel the 4th gear vibration. But.. does anyone actually see the shifter moving a cm up and down while in gear. While decelerating in gear. A soft acceleration when letting off the gas does this as well. Dealers are clueless any similar issues? I might be able to get a video to visualize

this happened for me but now all my mounts are poly and it doesn't move even a little bit. i am not suggesting you swap all your mounts for this one complaint though, because the NVH of the ENTIRE car is noticeable |

Alright, so it's just the stock mounts but nothing to be worried about ? It's common issue I assume. But can be fixed with new mounts even tho that would make my OCD even worse with every sound I hear like direct injection I feel rumble at idle, ****ty rev hang and linear throttle response issues

I too have noticed this in my 2017. It's not constantly vibrating, but i feel it 'buck' a little when I'm shifting in/out of 4th.

2017 Wrx 4th Gear Vibration !!
Mines does it to 2017 wrx limited started at around 8,000 plus miles only on 4th gear NOT ALL THE TIME BUT ITS DOING IT MORE CONSTANTLY. but if you put your hand slightly on the shift knob and gently press it back you will fell like something moves and falls in place not sure what is actually moving down there but it has some play ...and then you won't fell no more vibration AT ALL !! WONDER WHY THE DEALER SHIP'S MT SAID ITS NORMAL I don't think it is because it goes away when you press back.

Look at it like part of the WRX's personality. I've noticed it but it doesn't bother me and doesn't hurt performance. Also, I'm sure it won't be an issue. Besides, I don't use 4th gear very often.

2017 WRX limited 4th gear vibration
NO is not normal also is not the personality of the car unless it has bipolarity problem, because is not the same anymore otherwise it would had made the vibration since I got it bran new. and with only less than 10,00 miles on it I'm thinking it may be due to improper care at the service department FYI what i mean by that is someone screwing up with your'e vehicle .because everything started going down wen I let someone else besides ME touch the ca.r after MY first (FREE- OIL CHANGE) I STARTED HEARING WEIRD NOISES on the back suspension. after purchasing my snow tires and having them install at the dealership 3 1/2 hour's latter WHAT A TIMING FOR MOUNTING TIRES !! beside that the car wheels were poorly balanced so that on the highway I will be drift side to side, to top it up I got the 4TH GEAR VIBRATION . now I don't know for sure how many Subaru's MANAGERS service ADVISERS or MT'S actually log in to the forums to try to convince people that those things are normal but what I do know is that a business is a business and some how they all need to make a living to me personally I don't rust any mechanic NO OFFENCE to the few honest ones out there because I had seen first hand how they scam you in your'e own face by not been true /honest at what they do and personally believe that dealerships are no different maybe even worst since they have way more expenses to cover than someones garage down the Conner If you want you can keep track like I do and write down all the details/ variations of your car and when they started happening ,was it after you had it for service at the dealership or was it just a random thing because now-one knows better your own car than your self specially if is anew car warranties are in some way useless if the dealership service staff is no honorable / honest.

Call it what ever you want, I'm just letting people know about what it could be a real POSSIBILITY. Considering how often some people lie and miss inform others all for profit, FYI MONEY is the real problem ! in case you forgot what a business is all about I'm not saying that's the case on every person. But that they should investigate and keep track of their investment instead of blindly believing what ever their told first hand.
