Close.

The base/premium use a regular set of bulbs.
H11 - low beam
9005 - high beam
194/168 - C position light
7440 - turn signal
H16 - fogs

The limited has a LED array that's used to shine light into low-beam and C position lights.

As far as I know, the high-beam, turn signal and fogs are exactly the same as base/premium - regular halogen bulbs... hence the fugly DRL look of the high-beam running @ 1/2 voltage, which on the limited is more pronounced (contrast with the LED) than on the base/premium (at least they are all crappy halogens).

One clear 'benefit' of the base/limited housings, bulb/socket setup is it should be much much easier to re-wire things to force the C position light to work as the DRLs.
With a strong enough LED bulb in there, maybe some acrylic rods, etc. this should look great and shine brighter than the limited C shape.
On the limited it might prove tricky rewiring or replacing anything that uses the LED array... not that you need to.
Just drop some nice LED high-beams, fogs and turn signals and you're set.

In all trims, this car is begging for a full LED or bi-xenon conversion.

Thanks a lot for the info. Your friends lights on the legacy look great.

My exact same feelings. If an acrylic rod were seated firmly and couldn't move, using a bright LED should illuminate most of that housing. I plan to give this another shot one I find the setup I'm looking for.

Yes, it comes off 1-2-3 once you split the lights apart.

Isn't the led option just a different bulb? On the xv crosstrek there are two.

Yessir. I just like the look of black and orange together, I think they're striking colours and offset each other well, so, I didn't want to remove mine personally.

Negative. The LED "C" on the higher models has additional pins in the headlamp plug, plus, the LEDs are within the C, as opposed to the halogen bulb in the corner of it. I've been looking into a kit for seating a acrylic tube to run within the C and an LED that will illuminate it.

Those look great. I want to black out my Base headlights but I would like to replace the orange reflectors also so I guess I will wait to see what the aftermarket comes up with first. Also really want to put in LEDs on the C so I guess I will see what everyone does to see what fits and works best. Keep the mods coming they are great.

Default Leakage?

Any signs or worries with leakage?

When reassembling did you simply reheat and squeeze back together, or did you add some extra sealant?

This is my only worry haha, do not want any fogging.

Reheat the lights, squeeze together and use the pressure clamps around the light to make sure they're together. No sealant is necessary. If you do decide to use sealant, get butyl online, don't use silicone.

First off, thanks for the write up. Great info.

Secondly, I'm planning on doing this exact thing with acrylic tubing in the C lights this weekend. I'll most my results. These yellow lights are just killin' me.

I have looked into some H16 LED foglights and it's possible that the H16 fittings are interchangeable with the H8/H11 when talking about high-powered LED retrofit kits. The Nokya NOK9718 seem like they will fit the foglight assembly and they're designed for H8/H11/H16

http://www.lightbulbs4cars.com/product/NOK9718

I might buy these and report back

Sorry for late response:

No issues with condensations or anything. Since the car is still very new, the rubber sealant used was still extremely fresh and able to be remolded back into the headlamp housing. This may be more of a concern for vehicles with a few years under it's belt. After the painting was completed, I just re-heated the assembly for 5 minutes, then pushed them back together ensuring the sealant was evenly distributed. No problems to date (=

No condensation at all so far?

Did the chrome rings on the projector housing separate from the rest of the chrome piece, or is it a single piece? I'd like to keep the ring around the projector chrome, and if it comes off, it should be super easy, otherwise i'll try taping it off.

Have you painted em this way? I've been looking for someone with a chrome ring. Only thing I've found is completely blacked out or the whole projector cylinder unpainted

All the chrome around the projector is one piece. It would very simple to just tape off the ring. I got impatient and blacked it out completely.

Wondering if anyone in the Central, TX area knows of a shop I can go and have my headlights fixed/ customized ? Just don't feel like sending em' back North East to my home town to have em' done. Any help would be great! I've searched but, only found steps to "DIY".

Thanks, a lot!

Check out my thread here if anyone in interested in a set of acrylic c's.

Copied from thread :::
I have been waiting for a broken headlight to go on eBay so that I could make molds for the acrylic c's. I have extra rods around and figured I would make a proof of concept while I was waiting. These are too big of diameter but they will work to see how it will disperse light. It came out pretty well.

Used a template from the outside of the headlight. Should be pretty close to scale.

Now I just need a mold to form a template and they should be ready to make.
