Default DD C Lights Yellow Hue

I have installed a set of diode dynamics LED C-light boards and am very satisfied with their appearance when turned on. However, when the lights are turned off I find the yellow hue of the LED strip to be very noticeable, especially since my vehicle is white. Do these C-light boards always appear this way when off? I am wondering if I should have placed them further back in the C-light cavity of the headlamp? They seem to be pushed right up against the clear plastic "C".
I am considering re-opening the headlamps to try and adjust their position and possibly use a "frost" paint on the inside of the clear plastic "C" to make the yellow less visible. I would appreciate any other suggestions.

It looks white in the photo, what am I missing?

I'm waiting on my parts to do my retrofit and wondering the exact same thing about using frosted paint to diffuse the c-light lens a bit more. The Subispeed headlights have a very frosted lens for the c-light and I love how solid the output is.

On a separate note, has anyone blacked out their high beam bowls when doing their retrofit? I really don't like the idea of leaving the chrome bucket, and it seems like the factory high beams may just be redundant with the bixenons... Thoughts? Any pictures of a retrofitted high beam output with/without the factory highs?

---

EDIT: After reading 70+ pages of this thread I found my own answers. A few folks have successfully used the frost paint in their c-lights:

https://forums.nasioc.com/forums/sho...&postcount=188

And there's a good discussion on the merits of keeping the halogen high beam bowl here: https://forums.nasioc.com/forums/sho...postcount=2277.

Personally I'm still going to pick up a can of the frost paint (it's only $4/can) and see how I feel after painting everything. I am planning to darken the chrome in the high beam bowl with Duplicolor Shadow Chrome as well. This should dull the chrome effect but maintain most of the reflectivity.

I ended up using the frost paint on the C light housings and am very happy with how they turned out. Careful to be sure you are buying the pure white frost and not the "sea green" frost as the cans are identical.

Any pics of the frost? I almost did the same, and have wondered how it would have looked.

finally swapped in a set of d2s 4.0's. decent amount of dremeling was needed and the stock butyl was a mess and bunched up so i peeled it all out and replaced it with retro rubber. hated all the chrome and black looks dull to me so i painted them rust-oleum black stainless, a nice metallic dark grey. masking the chrome under the c lights was not happening so i painted everything and tossed in some diode dynamics c lights.

Sorry, it's been a long while since I've logged in. Actually, most folks from the Alaska chapter jumped ship to Facebook for a local page. Since I don't have Facebook, I kind of fell out of everything.

I will look into this, and hopefully fix. I am unsure why Photobucket gives that error now.

Default photobucket

According to an article: "On June 26, the Photobucket blog briefly noted its updated Terms of Service, which went into effect on June 20. In the three-sentence post, there is no mention of the end of hotlinking unless users pay a $399 annual fee. After clicking to view the new terms, there is a list of three paid account plans, but only the $400 Plus 500 Plan allows for third-party image hosting.

Loyal Photobucket users are furious; many describing the move with terms such as ransom and extortion.”

There are several browser extensions available that "fix" this and allow the P-bucket images to display. Right-click and "open in new tab/window" may also work.

Hey everyone! I recently completed my headlight project on my WRX which included retrofitting Morimoto D2S 4.0 HIDs, Diode Dynamics c-lights, and blacking out the housing. It was a long and challenging project, but 100% worth the effort.

In prepping for the project I was frustrated by the lack of documentation regarding the actual retrofit; there are so many articles/forum posts with broken links and images or just plain incomplete instructions. With this in mind, I made an effort to document each and every step in the process.

I've written up a full guide on how to do a retrofit over on my blog if you are interested in this project yourself! Feel free to check it out and share any comments/suggestions you might have! I've got a lot more pictures I'd like to implement so please let me know if anything seems to be missing.

FYI - Lightwerkz and The Retrofit Source are having huge sales from now until the 8th. Debating if I want to pick up a retrofit kit now or hold off until the next big sale (probably Black Friday)

Hey all,

Having an issue with one side of my retrofit, seems as though I may have adjusted one bolt too much without adjusting the other 2 and now acter a couple of months the aim of the projectors are getting shifted out of alignment. Is there a way I can "reset" the aiming bolts and adjust all 3 the right way this time?

Finally got around to getting my headlights done by a local guy here. D2S retrofit and DD C-Lights. They look great but we are having a bit of an issue with the C-Lights. Sometimes the C-Light will shut off for about a second and then turn back on. This happens sporadically, only one side at a time, and only when the lowbeams are on - when running as a DRL, they both work perfectly fine. They don't flicker even when we played around and tugged on the wiring, and the clamps feel pretty secure. We tried switching the drivers from one side to the other but it still happened.

Anyone have any ideas? The guy who did my headlights is well-vested by the local community here and has done dozens of C-Lights over the past few years and said he's never encountered this issue before. Going to call TRS/Lightwerkz on Monday to see if they have any insight. Will try to get a video too.

Aside from that, still need to spend some time leveling the projectors.

I had similar issues. The included connectors are pretty weak, so I replaced them all and soldered all the male/female ends to be double sure.

Does anyone have any experience with the eBay version of the led c lights? It's around $65 shipped for the set. I would love the diode Dynamics ones but they're a little more than I want to spend.

Default Unpinning connector

*Note: the picture on their site is incorrect

They actually look like this:

Unpinning the C-Light's connector allows you to thread the wires through the hole, and plug it back in after

I believe he used Silicone sealant to prevent any leaks, but I used a copious amount of electrical tape (on both sides of the plug)

Hope it helps!

Hi ,

Shot in the dark for a response here but do you have anyway to explain how to de pin the connectors , hard to find a video for this specific one

Thanks for any help!

This video shows how to unclip wires from a plug very similar to it. You don’t have to worry about damaging the little tabs that lock them in place, because they can easily be bent back to normal once you get them out.
