Default Hub conversion?

I know the 2008+ STi hubs are a direct swap in the rear but what about the front? What ca we do there? I'd love to run STi Brembo brakes and have a much better wheels selection without trying to redrill rotors, etc.

Front 2004+ Brembos bolt up with a 2004 rotor, just need to swap bleeders from top to bottom. Rear 2008+ Brembos bolt up with a redrilled rotor...which is cheaper than a hub conversion. Rear 2004-2007 Brembo bolts up with an adapter.

Want Brembo brakes? I sell you mine!

I'm thinking about it. Haven't decided which is better/cheaper Stoptech BBK or STi Brembos?

I'm sure if I'm patient something will pop up for the STi Brmbos and I can get a hell of deal tho. I just don't like the idea of a re drilled rotor.. Sounds half assed. Whatever I do needs to fit under 17*9 +45 RFP1's

Not sure STI Brembos will clear 17x9 +45 RPF1. Not seeing it as an option on Tirerack or 5x100 or 5x114 nor in the old STI wheels/brakes thread. I think some of the people with 17x9 RPF1 were having issue with the AP Racing sprint BBK...so fatty STI calipers probably won't fit.

Why put brembo's on a 2800 lbs car??? pads, rotors, lines, fluid, done. Drop weight maybe.

Two reasons.

A) Why not?

B) The BRZ brakes are very fade prone.

Gotcha, Have to do more research then. I definitely want to upgrade the brakes and want something that offers more heat dissipation and looks nicer.

Orbital, according to TireRack a 17x8+45 fits a 2007 STi, going to a 17x9+45 shouldn't change that, I'm sure a 9" wide wheel just doesn't fit on a STi.

A) STI Brembos are nothing special. If you're going to bother, do it right and use some monoblock calipers.

B) The BRZ OEM pads are very fade prone.

Yeah tire rack doesn't show " stance or stretched fitments". 9.5 is tight on the 11's + so I'm betting 9 would be the same or worse on the narrow body.

This ^^^^ rotational weight hurts acceleration. So I'm going for upgrades that lower it or remain the same. Light low power car isn't going to like getting fatter.

Suggestions? Or just change to slotted rotors, hawk pads, and braided lines?

Yes, something like 1 lb. of rotational weight being worth 4 lbs. of static weight isn't it?

I think it's more like 3:1 but yes.

I'm doing SS lines ATE super blue and stop tech pads... if it eats the rotor which I doubt since its a wrx brake then I get better material rotors but drilled and slotted lowers the life disproportionately to the gains in performance.

Keep in mind this car is over 600 lbs less than an STI so unless you really up the weight or power or both brembos are overkill. Doesn't mean they won't work or look sweet but then you're using specific wheels again.

Not the direction I'm going. Which is lighter with exhaust intake and custom tune. Keep it fun and predictable.

Offset is important. I might have it backwards, but I recall one offset of 9" wide RPF-1 doesn't clear the spokes with the AP racing caliper, which is smaller than the Brembos.

I understand a BBK is overkill, but I ended up with an AP racing kit that's lighter than the stock setup so the rotational mass argument is a moot point. Would I put STI Brembos on the car? Not unless I got them cheap or had them on hand. My setup from the WRX is disassembled and unpainted...I really didn't want to mess with them or buy 2pc rotors for them. Which is funny considering the AP kit is 2pc rotors; though cheaper than the DBA 2pc rotors.

Drilled rotors are a (inferior) hold over from an earlier time period. Slots however have no significant drawbacks and offer huge advantages. I will never install drilled rotors on a vehicle that I own, it's old tech.

I've decide, initially I will go with two piece slotted front rotors (stock size), hawk pads, slotted rear rotors, braided lines, and good fluid, about half the price of a bbk and should perform nicely for my uses. And I'll just paint the stock calipers, yellow of course. I'm going to do the paint immediately after delivery. Because race car.

Should I later determined that that's not sufficient then I'll probably look back into a bbk or/also hub swap.

Yeah I was just offering up that my wrx with those additions made a large difference and it weighs over 400 more and worse balance than the brz.

I would assume the stock pads are just made for daily not anything aggressive.

If you read the track reviews you'll notice that while they weren't great it wasn't nearly the issue the wrx has...

The car does alot of alot of brake fade that is the biggest issue. As far as the actual strength of the brakes will better fluids, pads, and a brace you have enough stopping power to compete until you really build the car.

It's very important and so is chamber and diameter. Alot more goes into choosing a wheel then just size and weight.

Yes closer to stock is better... I honestly wouldn't go wider than 8.5 or push the offset out any wider than absolutely necessary... it handles great don't ruin it for overall grip.......

Found the source of the problem: RPF1's.

I agree and if you notice most professional shops are going 17x8, I am going to say there is a reason for that.

I had 18x9.5's on the wrx and while they fit I had all kinds of funny tire wear due to any amount of camber. They were 20lbs but still slowed the car down and lost mpg.

I traded for 17x7.5's. Slightly taller than stock since 225/40's don't really exist but I lost 4lbs of wheel weight.

KNS Brakes and Mach V sell a bracket that will properly locate gold Brembos on 08+ rear hubs; given that our bolt spacing is the same as the WRX, this bracket should work. Whether or not you need to modify it, I have no idea.
