Default 2006 CGM STI – Gentleman Edition [EUDM] in Switzerland’s mountains – Full Build

Hawkeye in Switzerland’s mountains - A Second Beginning

Said goodbye to my previous 2006 STI Limited about 6 years ago and been in an M3 CSL in the UK since then. Pics of the M3 CSL Track Car;

Now that I am spending more time in Switzerland, I bought another STI again to do proper mountain/canyon carving and snow/skiing duties. I still had a LOT of parts that I took off from my previous build so it just made sense to buy the same car again rather than try to sell off all the parts. Plus this gives me the chance to finally complete my full built out STI.

Took me a while to find the right project car, I think there are only about 7 Hawkeye STI’s for sale in all of Switzerland!

Say hello to my new Swiss mountain car/canyon carver...

2006 WRX STi Type G (for Gentleman). Came in Crystal Grey Metallic 48W (S204 colour!)

This is the gentleman spec

Condition: 76,000km, 2 previous owners, had a recent remap with a catback @ 320bhp according to dyno. 1st owner did 50,000km, second owner did the remaining 26,000km. Other mods included Apexi N1 ExV Coilovers, Killer B Motorsport Ultimate Oil Pickup & windage tray, Kevlar reinforced timing belt kit and Denso iridium spark plugs. It was also on some TE37’s which I decided not to keep (have something else in store).

Got a very extensive mod list coming up for the car over the next couple of months!

Will update as I start receiving parts

Good to see another EUDM STI. I am just north of you in Germany. I have the 2006 STI Limited (as it’s called here in Germany) in Obsidian Black Pearl. Identical specification pretty much between the Spec G and the Limited. Looking forward to pics!

Here is mine!

nice! Looks exactly the same spec as mine but in black. Black brembos or Gold Brembos? You modded it yet?

I'll be doing some trackdays around Germany/Italy/France after the summer. Nurburgring might be with the CSL though let's see. What Subaru engine builders/workshops have you been recommended or heard of by the way?

I am looking at Subi-Performance and HK-Power in Germany. Otherwise in the UK, Chevron Motorsport, RCM and Lateral Performance.

So today was time to take all my previous car mods to my friend who happens to be a Subaru only mechanic as well!

Loading up the parts & enjoy the view

What I had with me so far – You can guess some of the parts

Dropped the car off with my mechanic. He has a really nice S204 Replica full JDM swap but LHD. Will share some pics of his car too in the future

Yep! I’ve only seen maybe another one or two Limited/SpecG/SpecD around here so it’s nice to know there’s another one nearby.

There’s a Track Day coming up first week of August at NBR and at Spa in Belgium that I’ll be going to.

I usually use a Mietwerkstatt here that I pay 10 Euros an hour to use their lift and tools. There isn’t any Subaru Performance workshops in Stuttgart, so I do most of the things myself. I will tell you part prices here in Germany for Subaru’s are astronomical compared the the US.

Yeah I’ve heard of Subi Performance but haven’t been by yet.

My car is very much so original with the exception of an Invidia Q300 Exhaust, Rally Armor Mudflaps, V-Limited Lip, Gold BBS STI Wheels and a Alcantara Steering Wheel. It has the Gold Brembos...kind of wish it had the Black ones. More creature comforts/protection additions than Performance for me as it’s my only car here so I need to have a daily driver.

But...that can change since I’m planning on importing my E90 M3 over pretty soon.

There’s a huge Subaru Meet in Tannheim on August 10-11th if you wanted to join in on that. A few of my friends here are going with their STI’s. PM if you’re interested in joining in!

Awesome looking car! Looking forward to the build!

Ahh nice. I'm not quite ready for trackdays yet got a lot on my plate at the moment with work and the car is nowhere near ready as well. The circuits that are close to me would be Bresse, Dijon, Monza and Mugello.

Bresse does some unlimited trackdays which means you can drive as much as you want between 9am to 5pm. I think my friend did something like 100+ laps in a day.
https://www.circuitdebresse.com

Doing a classic car rally the weekend of the 10th otherwise would be down for the meet. Would be interested to see the turnout/pics.

This build should get going fully towards end of august/september

Put on the Velocity Carbon Trunk, Fully Shaved (still needs fiddling to fit perfectly - and a paint match)
Also put on the Visual Autowerks Rear Window vents in black as they just arrived.

04/05 STi Taillights w/ WRC Taillight mod
MadDad Whisper 3" Single Tip Catback
MadDad Metal V2 Catted Downpipe
Perrin 15mm Exhaust Hangers Red
Cusco Front Power Brace
Ferrodo DS2500 Pads FR & RR
PIAA Super Sporza Wiper blades

Fitted the Bride seats from my previous STI. These are Bride Stradia II Japan Edition with JPM Coachworks red stitching and carbon backs.

Thanks for the suggestion on Bresse! Let me know when you’re planning on going and I’ll make the trip down!

Nice build so far! Look great.

Can you tell me more about the 04-05 tail lights? I was thinking of doing the same since I hate the clear ones that came on our car stock. Did you just replace the outside lens portion of the tail light? Have to do anything with the wiring at all? Since we have the rear fog light option?

For sure will let you know. Regarding the lights, I just bought some 04-05 tail lights and installed them. Replaced the originals.

Then I did this mod.

Okay so basically just straight swapped them over Plug and Play? Do all the correct lamps turn on and everything? Most notably the Reverse and Rear Fog Lights?

Yes. That is what I did and it worked just fine. The only exception is rear fogs, which we do not have in the US, so you might want to verify that part.
I did not do any of the alternations to the lights for the JDM, etc looks. It sounds like you want to avoid those mods to keep things as close to factory as possible.

Ahh okay thanks for the clarification. I was going to play around with it and maybe see what I could do. If the rear fogs don’t work then it won’t pass TÜV here. Shame...those 04-05 lights are the best looking.

Lots of parts arrived!!!

Wheels arrived from Japan! Prodrive GC-010E 18x8.5 +35mm. These came pre-mounted with AD08’s in 225/45/18. Gonna run them until they are done.

Had to fit these with a spacer as they don’t clear brembos. It’s crazy that they would clear a 6 pot setup but not brembos… so fat those stock brembos.

Can just about see the cusco power brace, Relocated the front plate to the side with some 3M tape. Gonna have to shave the bumper clean one day.

Changed the rear licence plate to a more square version along with Carbign Craft CF plate frame

Did some front end work with my mechanic the other day. Still not a lot of suspension and drivetrain mods as it’s my daily driver and would have to give it up for about 2 weeks!

We got here;

Oswald performance lightweight aluminium bumper beam & tow hook.
Hella Supertone Horns in Silver
HT Autos Limited Lip (trying this one out before the carbon version)
Sypder DRL Headlights – looks so much better with these on
Yellow foglight overlays
Acrylic Black Front licence plate with Silver STI logo
S204 Center Grille Mod in Red

The beam weighs so much less than the original beam, taking some good weight off the front.*

how are the clubsports on the road?

Can you soften them enough for it to be reasonable, or are they simply *too* track focused?
