I've tried Simple Green, worked well for me with a 50/50 dilution. I only let it sit for ~30 seconds before washing off.
Also +1 for scrubbing bubbles, that stuff works wonders. Probably one of the safer products to use |

I usually brush/blow off as much dirt and dust as I can when its dry, then use armor all for the plastics. as for the metal bits, i usually use what I have around me, nothing special or specific. Then I quickly rinse the engine with hose or pressure washer (cover up all the things that shouldnt get hit) and give it a nice wipedown. Definitely gonna check out the Scrubbing bubbles trick..

I personally don’t like to use soaps or anything of that sort on my engine bay unless there is oils. The soaps and detergents seem to be sicky ang build up dirt quicker than usual if you decide to go that route. Just my point of view.

Any business process has a progress stage. Employees from different departments are connected to the work, each of them is responsible for performing only their individual operations. Some tasks are performed using enterprise apps, while other operations are performed manually. This way of work interferes with good management. So we implemented an automation managemart software a few years ago. We are doing a cleaning business and this perfectly suits us.

Honestly no, I’m not a fan of many of their products. There are some good ones...sure. But for degreasing and APC superclean is one of the big three

Honestly, i just hose down the engine with water. Then follow up with engine degreaser all over the engine. Then hose it back again with water. Just make sure to cover all the electrical and filters before you hose it down. I just use plastic grocery bags to cover. I have done it numerous times with no problems despite many disagree about "hosing down your engine."
However, IF you are going for a car show, nothing beats a good old rag and wipe with detail. It takes forever, but its car show quality. But since my subie is my daily, my engine gets dirty so fast that hosing down is easier and faster. |

Damn, good to know about the scrubbing bubbles! The engine bay is the one part of my car that I neglect.. I really need to get better about that.

Scrubbing bubbles and Simple Green are good products. My current favorite is the Chemical Guys Orange Degreaser.

Simple green is terrible for aluminum parts.

Just used scrubbing bubbles to see what that was all about, and man I was surprisingly pleased. It took 90% of the hard work out, just had to dry it off and detail some minor places afterwards.

That grease/oil in the bay is kind of protecting the metal.

I've been detailing engine bays for a long time, a good tip is to use common sense such as covering air intakes and electrical components. Most modern cars are made to handle water in the engine bay for example driving in heavy rain, big puddle etc. I'd recommend using a regular water hose instead of a pressure washer and the most important part is to blow out the water using air such as a small leaf blower (some vacuums can be made to be used as a blower) or compressed air. When it comes to chemicals it all depends on how soiled it is. Something like Purple Power which can be diluted does a pretty good job. And for the dressing, CarPro PERL or Meg's Hyperdressing do real good and they too can be diluted!
