Having an issue, I went ahead and followed the steps laid out after saving and opening the saved file for edit I found every line as FF FF FF FF. Is this normal? Could I have missed something? Is the chip file locked maybe? I can't seem to find anything online as I lack the knowledge to really even give a proper search. Hoping someone can chime in with a little back round on programming chips.

The steps I took and the chipset I am using.
02 WRX
EDM Prodrive Cluster mileage before uninstalling was at 13,068
Removed 8 pin chip from the circuit board
plugged into SP200SE eeprom reader
software being used is WLPRO V2.20

Device searched as AT93C56
I read the chip successful
Saved as original in .hex
Opened original file
Hit edit and switched to 16bit
Every line was
0 FF FF FF FF
8 FF FF FF FF
10 FF FF FF FF
18 FF FF FF FF
20
28
and so on all FF FF FF FF

Any help is appreciated thanks.

I couldn't tell you what it means and it will not write to the chip.

If you get lots of FF FF FF FF your not reading the chip right.

also that hex dump does not look right to me.

I want to add that the USDM 04-07 STi clusters eeprom chip work simaler for the milage but the address of the milage info is different.

I am about ready to start offering a reprogaming serivce on them. I only have to get one more cluster to test my process on.

I got a 6 speed installed.
Now my MPH error is constant 3 MPH at any speed. This is close enough for me.
I will hook up the DCCD and post if the error changes after that.

Sorry to dig this thread up from the graveyard, but I think I have solved the MPH error problem. I recently got a v8 Prodrive cluster and used this thread to update my mileage and change the outside temp to F (thanks for all the info!). I decided to dig into the error issue as an attempt at repayment

It appears to be a very simple "correction factor" for the different readouts. I swapped the v8 Prodrive cluster into my 05 WRX, going from a 140mph speedo to a 160mph. I thought that this might matter but upon reading the service manual, it looks like all speedos should read 60mph when feed a 68.4Hz pulse. My brain then assumed the offset must be due to a final drive thing or something outside the actual speed sensor.

I gathered up all the dumps I could fine and started seeing if I could identify something that looked like a correction offset. I found a few here and there, a couple variants of the Prodrive, some JDM v7 STi, a 2007 WRX, etc. A few things stood out that seemed like they might affect it, so I started a long night of flashing and feeding it a pulse, rinse, repeat.

Here's the current dump of my v8 Prodrive, non-DCCD cluster.

The change is on the 2nd line:

0C00AA00331A0005886A52341022EA63E1

Normally, this would be 03 on this cluster. I noticed the JDM STi dumps I had were 02 and my USDM WRX clusters were 0A. Setting the Prodrive to 0A made the error much higher, so I was sure I was onto an offset. For my use so far, 00 seems to get me where I need to be.

I'd love for someone else to give this a try on a different cluster and see if it holds up.

Also, while looking at this issue, I think I may have a bead on how the odometer ticks on the mph vs. kph clusters. In the 3rd line of the dump:

0A14334B08100000314FAAFA55F5F000BE

This is 0x1008 or 4104 in decimal, the number of pulses per minute (68.4Hz or 60mph). The JDM dumps I have have F409 or 0x09F4 - 2548 in decimal, the number of pulses in 1 km.

According to the service manual, the odometer "Counts up 1 km per 2,548 pulses. (4,104 pulses per mile)" so my intuition says that toggling this between the 2 values would allow the odometer to show either miles or kilometers, regardless of what the speedo is actually reading. I have not tested this yet as I have had no need, but wanted to put it out there for science in case someone else wanted to give it a shot

Default V8 dccd prodrive cluster help

My mechanic successfully wired dccd pro onto my cluster so it can be read and adjusted. I own an 02 wrx and need help with the following;

Rear diff temp light
Abs light

Both lights stay on. I come across a few threads online but nothing simple or concrete enough for a wiring novice to understand. Any guidance or help will be greatly appreciated please be very simple with explanations if possible.
