Default 4EAT Shift Kit

Just a quick note for other 4EAT drivers, I have installed 2 of these shift correction kits and they are great for the price. I see some people selling modded valve bodies for $250-550+ but I did it in an afternoon.

These ones are $35 and really changes how the car feels. Put one on a 99 Forester a few months ago and one on an 04 WRX. It cuts shift time down by maybe 75% as a guess, nice immediate bump at each gear change both up and down. What it says is it firms up shifts for less slippage, causing less heat and clutch wear. And increases torque converter lockup pressure for more holding power and decreasing torque converter clutch failure. Good if you have engine mods or have done a 2.0 to 2.5 swap.

You will need about 8-9 quarts of fluid since the pan and valve body have to come out and the converter will partially drain out. Good time to change the spin on filter if not done recently. But you don't really need to change the internal filter, that i is more of a metal mesh screen than a filter. Also will need a pan gasket, unless you want to seal the pan back on as OE. I went with a good gasket.

You install about 5 new springs, replace 2 spring, add a washer under another spring and drill out 2 holes slightly larger on the separator plate. Comes with all the springs (color coded) and the 2 drill bits.

I got mine both here, but they are also on amazon and other sites but more expensive. https://cobratransmission.com/4eat-v...-kit-1301129-1

Good write up! I'll be saving this so that I can do it on my saabaru this summer. How difficult is it to pull the transmission to work on it? Any other things to do while in there?

That's a nice little kit. Glad one is available for the autos.

Nice write-up and simple to do.

You don't need to pull the transmission, just drain the pan, take it off then take out the valve body. There are about 7 solenoids that need to be unplugged, each connector is colored and matches the wire color.

There are about 8 bolts to remove the valve body, the rest of the bolts can stay in until you take the VB apart.
