Default No power, can’t rev past 2500, no CEL, flashing cruse control

After a day at the beach drifting and doing donuts in the sand I got this problem. My STI feels like it’s in limp mode but I have no CEL and the only indicator is a flashing cruse control light. I can’t rev past 2500 rpm and there’s practically no power and the exhaust sounds awful. Oil levels are good and there’s no glitter in the oil ether, the access port has no codes ether, I’ve reset the ECU many times and even reflashed the map multiple times. Here’s where it gets weird, after the car cools down the problem disappears and only props up after the car has warmed up. I’m pretty sure it’s heat related because when I hose down the block and turbo after the steam is gone the problem disappears.

When I first noticed the problem I thought it was the air filter. It was clogged with sand so I cleaned and reoiled it but it didn’t fix it.

I took it to a local mechanic to scan the car but nothing showed up on or on history but the problem wasn’t happening at the time.

I’ve washed the car twice and took a power washer to the undercarriage to get any left over sand but I’m sure some is still left.

Is there anything I missed or any ideas y’all might have?

P.S. tuner found nothing wrong with the log I sent.

Miles on the car?

at this point if your tuner + mechanic can't find anything wrong preliminarily, I'd suggest potentially doing a hot compression test to see if its potentially losing compression when it warms up. If your tuner is a performance specialist shop that also does maintenance, it may be worth letting them have a look to see if they can figure it out if you're stumped and they're doing a compression test for piece of mind anyway, FWIW.

so you were drifting on sand? Were you banging off the rev limiter?
Just trying to understand what level a abuse we are talking about here.

It's not losing compression when it warms up

Yes I did hit the rev limit a lot and coolant got to 230 at which point I stopped. Also it’s a new motor with forged internals with 2700 miles on it. Yes I did follow proper break in procedures

so when you say it is ok cold do you mean it runs normally? Like it will rev up to whatever you try to go to?

and when you say it won't rev past 2500 warm do you mean literally as in if you stay on the throttle it will climb to 2500 and then simply stop dead on 2500? or you mean it just has no power so you can't get past 2500?

could you rev in neutral past 2500?

Cold it’s like it’s completely normal, I can rev to redline no problem and even with the engine at normal operating temps it runs fine for a bit till I get the issue. When problem is active the car has a slow rev up to 2500 and stays there with 100% throttle according to the boost dash also the car has so little power it’s easy to stall in 1st without being very gentle on the clutch. One last thing I’ve noticed is the boost pressure is constantly at -10 when this issue is active. Here’s a log if that helps

Turbo seizing when hot?...

Have you changed your oil and checked the filter, or just checked what's on the dipstick?

Did any sand make it past the air filter?

What downpipe?

If you arent against unbolting your DP to see if it's clogged/melted...may be worth the 5 nuts/bolts.

But that's just a shot in the dark...

The -10 psi thing is pretty odd, that's basically full idle vacuum
It's like something is physically preventing your throttle from actually opening
Regardless of what's going on downstream if that throttle was open it could not be at -10psi. It may not boost depending on the issue but certainly couldn't be holding full vacuum.

Heat makes things swell, so perhaps something swells up just enough to catch onto the grain of sand which prevents your throttle from opening. I am with rtv900, i dont think your throttle opens when hot. I would double check that first.

Default Solved

problem was The wire harness rubbed against the turbo shield and caused wiring to get exposed when it would get hot the turbo shield would expand and ground out the wires that I suspected was for the throttlebody cover it up patched it up and put rubber around it and the problem hasn’t come back
