Vehicle suggestions for shikataganai (CN: Bought a ****in' Pacifica)
Where does the 4runner fit in that list Shik? Curious how much my e-peen can be swung around on this thing.

I doubt the GX460 is substantially better. They have darn near the same bones.
Don’t lift your 4Runner. |

Ah, good point. I forgot the GX 460 was already on that list. But the KDSS may be the secret sauce. So non-Pro? TRD models confuse this Land Cruiser owner.

This is logical thinking. Most lifts, while looking great, have lots of unintended consequences from my experience. Rubbing, weird handling dynamics (especially if suspension geo changes don’t accommodate the new ride height), crappy fuel economy and/or performance, accelerated component wear. |

This from the UAW negotiations. Of note given my interests: - BEV and hybrid F-150 - BEV Transit! - “Mustang derivatives” in Flat Rock (Mach-E) - Escape and Corsair PHEVs |

A concept from this year points to what might be seen in the BEV Transit:
TRANSIT SMART ENERGY CONCEPT - heat pump! (afaik the 2013+ Leaf SV/SL is the only commercially available BEV with a heat pump even to this date) - "six" unknown power PV panels on the roof, topping off the 12V system - double glazed windows, insulated floor, insulated roof, and some tricks to minimize heat loss via the sliding door (polycarbonate divider and a half-open feature) - 92 mile range via a 76 kWh battery donated from the StreetScooter WORK XL, with apparently a 20 kW charger |

On the range differences due to different wheel choices on the Model 3 Performance. (Quite a bit!) |

Not terribly surprising though the weight of a 20" setup vs. an 18" is pretty significant based on my experience with swapping over from 20's to 18's and back with my winter setup.

What about tires? I would think 20" wheels come with stickier rubber.

Yeah, tires, mass, and the aero covers all likely contribute a bit.

Vehicle suggestions for shikataganai (CN: Bought a ****in' Pacifica)
A few outlets covered that there’s going to be an electric Gelandewagen. So if Toyota doesn’t come through with a PHEV 300 series perhaps there still is hope for a green mainline marque square box vehicle, with headroom and unnecessary off-road chops alike. And a 2” hitch, of course.
Jalopnik made the good observation that the wheelbases of the G-Wagen and the EQC are very close, which may aid in packaging of the pack: |

Great video. I am more excited about them than before. The Amazon delivery truck collaboration means they have a steady assured revenue stream, and their in house development of almost everything drivetrain related is impressive. Also see from about 6:50 onwards. Not sure if I knew this or not, but they use four motors! Not hub motors but rather motors mounted inboard, each with its own single speed reduction gearbox and a long halfshaft (independently sprung corners, of course). As their Aussie (?) chief engineer notes this can yield many dividends for torque vectoring and traction control. I was skeptical of whether they would come to more than pretty vaporware but am starting to be optimistic. Will it be enough to sway me from an ascetic life^H^H^H a still comfortable glidepath to working part time that doesn’t involve $100k toys? That shall be seen. But they’re impressive no doubt. |

First instance of HW3 (the FSD chip) leading to new tangible features for Tesla owners:
https://electrek.co/2019/11/10/tesla...st-april-2019/ On the other hand, this new feature is not super useful. |

The comparison between the EU mix and the 100% hydro sides shows that about half the carbon cost of a high end BEV crossover is in its manufacturing. For context, here’s the manufacturing only carbon cost of two representative gas vehicles: |

My 3 got the latest software pushed to it tonight. Biggest change was an option to enable regen all the way down to 0 mph, at which point the discs engage and hold.
(Before it’d regen to 5 mph then tail off. One would complete the stop by braking manually.) This is pretty close to true one pedal driving now. Low speed maneuvering is a bit awkward but I’ll get used to that. |

Off topic...ish. I popped on the corolla forum for reasons I really cannot explain. Maybe boredom due to the fact my car is now a full 2 months late from the original delivery date? Of course, the first threads are about oil change intervals. Mind you, Toyota has been using 10k or yearly OCIs for a decade now. The 2.0L engine is only a year old so there isn't really any data to suggest that Toyota made an incorrect recommendation on OCIs. I swear, the FUD spread by these dumb ****s drives me crazy. Recommending changing oil at 1000 miles, 3000 miles, putting conventional oil to flush the system, etc. I've read claims that the engine will only last 100k if you do 10k OCIs so Toyota can sell you a new car. Toyota, a company that sells their products for a premium because of their reliability reputation, is going to purposely give you bad maintenance advice because they are "in the business of selling you a new car." Yes, if I have my car catastrophically **** the bed earlier than I expect, I'll turn around and buy the same brand. I've read it all.
The best part is that I literally spent the day yesterday benchmarking design group's durability test cell setup while the engineers were testing the impact of worn oil on bearing life. I've also durability tested the sister engine to the 2.0L and it is robust as can be as long as we build the damn thing right - and changing your oil early isn't going to fix it if we didn't build it right. It is absolutely possible that the engineers made a mistake. There is zero data that points to that, though. I may cancel my order for fear of being lumped in with these folks. And because, at this rate, I'll get my ducking 2019 model year car in 2020. I did see a 30th anniversary 70 series Land Cruiser at the test facility yesterday. Blue, 6MT, updated 4.0L 1GR. It was glorious. My phone was locked in a security cabinet so no pics. |
