Did they (Mossberg) finally fix the issues with them? Or is 2,000 rounds still the max until breakage?

I've consulted 3 different friends about this subject, and have yet to consult the Google machine, and/or bother to search this thread. Has anyone researched using an AFG or hand stop on a pistol, in terms of AFT/ NFA rules of vertical forward grips on pistols?

With the ATF seeming to make up the rules however they see fit, and a Supreme Court that really doesn't seem to care about the 2nd Amendment, I'd rather not run afoul of some overzealous LEO at a range and end up in pound me in the ass prison over something as stupid as a VFG on a pistol regardless of what gun enthusiasts refer to them as.

I didn’t know they had issues with the 940. I just wanted one because it checked all the boxes for a shotgun I was looking for. I will have to do some research. I wonder if that’s what Mossberg meant when they said it can go 2,000 rounds between cleaning....

From what I understand hand stops are good to go but any other “grip” is a no-no.

I was going to get one after they first came out until I heard about the issues folks were having when running them hard. I remember hearing about a couple of complete lockups during matches. The most common failure I remember was the bolt carrier breaking.

Quick google search reveals that might not be an issue anymore.

Isn’t there a minimum OAL requirement for a handstop/AFG type accessory on a pistol?

Angled grip and hand stop can go on anything. Vertical grip can only go on a sbr or rifle.

Sent CGW an email to see if they would fit a Barsto threaded barrel on a 97 and doing the barrel bushing conversion.

Sent EAA an email about availability of their 6” 10mm Witness barrel. Then I could have it cut down and threaded and reload some heavier 10mm bullets to get them a little over 1000fps to be more suppressor friendly.

Or I might just end up with an FNX45T.

Sheez. Option 2 seems like a lot of work. (but may be the best when done right. emphasis on right).

Yeah. Getting the 97 to where I would want it would probably be around $1700-1800.

I could get a 10mm Witness III for less than $1k but then it is finding the barrel and a competent gunsmith to do the barrel work. Doesn’t account for finding 10mm brass and bullets. I have plenty of powder.

Edit: Just went and looked and the Witness Stock IIIs that we’re less than $1k are gone.

Might just end up with option 3. But I really like option 2....

I'll be picking up a like new Ruger AR-556 this week, but it's my first AR. I've already bought the CAT M-4 scraper and Real Avid cleaning kit (eek sorry for the huge image). The CAT arrived today and it's a lot smaller than I was expecting.

Any other recommended AR-15 tools? Various articles online I've narrowed it to Real Avid MSR scraper, KZ CRT, Real Avid Carbon Boss (the one with the circular brush), and Gerber makes a pretty oontzy multi-tool.

Oil, oil, and more oil. Good stuff too, not rem oil. If its properly oiled, all the carbon will wipe off easily and not need a pile of work to remove.

Mags! Tons of mags! A mag block to stick it in your vise while performing maintenance operations. A cheapo delrin one is sufficient unless you foresee yourself doing assembly/disassembly procedures in which case a Magpul BEV block will enable most things you want to do.

You guys are wild.

What's "rem oil" ? I've got a little bottle of Hoppes 9 in the bag, and then a big container of Lucas gun oil for cleaning.

I'm going CA fixed mag with autoloaders. Mags? Where we're going, we don't need, mags...

I haven't seen any cleaning rods that aren't pieced together. Where are those? I've already got a bunch of cleaning supplies for the other stuff, but love specialized items.

I use mpro7 gun oil. I'm happy with it but ymmv. I think once you get out of the super cheap stuff it all works more or less the same. Properly oiled doesn't mean dripping. Do some research and learn how to lubricate it correctly.

One piece cleaning rods are pretty easy to find. Brownells, midway, Natchez or any other online place will have them. I get the coated ones because I'm baller like that.

Tipton carbon fiber rods are my favorite.

For military style rifles, agreed.

For a precision bolt gun, no way. 1 piece rod all the way.

Going to end up going with option 1. Found a CZ 97B for a good deal on Gunbroker.

Couldn’t find any Stock IIIs in 10mm for less than $1100 and I never heard back from EAA about the availability of the 6” barrel.

I should have jumped on the deal PSA had on FNX 45Ts a month ago for $899 shipped.

Great, thanks for the info. I saw a couple of the rods today, and yeah for 40-50 bucks a pop, baller indeed.

If you're interested in saving effort, sure. If you want to actually clean things not so much.
