s-afc 'blue wire mod' on 98 OBS...i think i messed up...help!
OK, so i have searched low and high for any info on the 'blue wire mod' so i can get a crude O2 reading from my s-afc to help with tuning my 98 OBS. I tapped the blue wire from the s-afc into wire #23 on the ECU, hoping to get the O2 reading. Everything on the s-afc is working, but im not sure which setting checks this reading and what an acceptable reading should be (i think i heard from .85 to 1.0 is good?) Please send me in the right direction so i can get this thing up and running 100%! thanks!

You have to go to the etc. screen, then the Sensor chk screen. It will be the In-2 reading.
As for what voltage you should expect, most people are still in the dark about this, as it seems no one has found the detailed datasheet for the stock O2 sensors that relate AFR to output voltage. I only use this reading as a sanity check to make sure that it's at least 7.0V in open-loop mode, and use an EGT to tune for safe temps. Since stoichiometric AFR's result in high EGT's that may harm the engine under heavy loads, you want to tune so that your EGT's are as close to 1400-1450°F as possible, while still staying on the rich side of AFR. Some people tune only by AFR, while others tune only by EGT. To be absolutely sure you're on the safe track, you should use both. Good luck, -WaC Wayne Last edited by wac; 07-22-2001 at 07:18 PM. |

ok..the In-2 valus flucuates from between .1 to .8 at very lite throttle, and a constant .86/.87 at moderate to full throttle. does theis sound right? where do i go from here without buting another gague right now? thanks!

Voltages
I've helped tune a turbocharged honda using a PMS (Programmable Management System). It plugs in between the stock ecu and the harness and is programmed via a handheld controller. It uses all the factory sensors. Anyway. Those O2 voltage #'s are identical to the O2 voltage #'s displayed by the PMS. The car was tuned so that the O2 voltage stayed between .86 and .89 at wot/full boost. That winds up to be about 13.5~12.8 AFR if memory serves. Just thought ya might like to know.
