I am doing the swap: taking a 09 WRX exhaust system and putting it on my 08 2.5i. I have a few friends who know what they are doing and I have put a PM to a few people on here for diagrams and any troubleshooting (CELs, O2 sensors, warranty issues...et cetera). From what I can gather, Subaru HAS to honor the warranty since it's a Subaru and very similar to putting the SPT exhaust on our cars. I haven't heard a single problem with the swap though and nothing but good things from a nice little growl to a little power gain (but in some theories there might be a power loss...idk how this is. I am not very technical nor mechanically inclined).

I will update you in two weeks when the swap is done...

...i am a bit nervous quite honestly...
The NA needs a little back pressure to keep its torque. With a higher flowing exhaust you will loose a little bit of torque, but the overall powerband will be a little bit smoother.

I have a '09 2.5i, and I know what Catback I want to get, but I am having a hard time finding a header. I want to get a UEL header so I can get the rumble out of my car. Anyone have any suggestions on headers for the 08+ 2.5i?

The 'needed' backpressure is a myth.... It has more to do with scavenging than anything else... Especially if you go too big of a diameter of an exhaust pipe...

go to eBay search for Impreza RS Header youll find them from $150-$175 Shipped. I modified a Stock 07 El manifold by Straightening the 1 and 3 Primaries. Still get to use stock 02 Locations and stock cat pipe but you have the Boxer Rumble and it is REALLY simple.

Will a UEL header off an RS will bolt up to a 09 2.5i? Or will it need to be modified to fit?

could you explain more as to what you did? not exactly looking for a performance gain, but i do want to get the boxer rumble at some point. i have been debating trying to find some WRX/STi stock manifolds and swapping those in with a different cat back. regardless of what i do, i want to do something cheap.

what catback are you looking for and whats uel header and how much do they USUALLY run?

i have the same car. err i didn't see if u had sedan or not.

My friend was talking about since the sedan exhaust is one pipe splitting into two. I can just go to a shop where he got his flowmaster's for his 71 nova, and the guy there can make it two straight pipes taking off the cat if i wanted too. anyone know if that would cause problems? or sounds pretty good?.

I have a Hatch hehe

I am planning on getting a Turbo XS catback.

UEL stands for Un-Equal Length. With our Subarus the exhaust goes to one side (passenger) and with exhaust outlets on either side of the engine the driver's side has more distance to cover so the pipe is longer than the piping coming off the passenger side. This set-up of different lengths creates the Subaru Signature "Boxer Rumble" that you hear on WRX's, STi's and older models. On the other newer models Subaru created an Equal Length design by adding pipping to the passenger side to match the length of the driver's side. With Equal Length the boxer rumble is gone and the whole system makes less overall noise.

As for how much they run, it was posted above that you can score an RS UEL for $100-$175 on eBay.

Default Question about hi-flow cats

i have a 2007 impreza 2.5i.

Will the Random Tech Dual Hi-flow cat have places for my o2 sensors, like the stromung hi-flow cat listed right about says? Also are there any cats on the stock manifold/header of my car?And if i put the borla headers on will i run into any problems with o2 sensors/ passing emission inspection?

here the site i was looking at for the hi-flow cats

http://www.boxer4racing.com/exhaust.htm#Exhaust Headers

Also which would you guys recommend a stromung cat-back or a borla cat-back?

Thanks in advance for the help

When I was non turbo...

Intake: Started off with an Injen short ram intake, was really loud and throaty at WOT, sounded really NA and comparable to a honda. Was a typical 4 cylinder NA sound.
Converted it to a Cold air intake by taking my friends cut up cold air off his wrx, cutting it up some more, added a 4 inch SS extension and it fit snug right behind the vent next to the fog light.
This thing sounded mean, not as loud as the short ram, but you could hear the engine just sucking in loads of air at WOT. Sold it to someone on RS25, they have a sweet sounding car now.

Exhaust: Honestly went through atleast 10 different exhaust setups, from stock headers to borlas, and from stock cat to track pipe.

The track pipe made it louder, but not hella louder, it really depended on the muffler. Best rumble was from a custom exhaust fabbed up using a magnaflow muffler, that thing shook the ground.
My favorite was the HKS superdragger, a rare bird, had this 3 inch monster fabbed up and my car sounded like a rally car, but NA.
The Stromung was beast also.

Power The track pipe plus an aftermarket catback gave a ton of high end power. I was almost convinced my RS was a pure breed since I was able to light up all 4 from a dig and I was putting stock WRX's to shame????
With a highflowing muffler, low end was a bit, ehhh. I could throw a stock muffler back on an regain the low end but loose that insane top end.

I miss how fun it was to drive NA, it was the ideal daily driver. I couldn't even imagine 200 or more whp from a 2.5 NA.

My swap is doing me good though

What's your budget?

You can get a new catback from anywhere between $375-$800 and a used one for a little less.

You can get a new Short Shifter from anywhere between $70-$140 and a used one for a little less.

I don't know much about CAI's As far as I have heard there isn't one out yet that won't throw a CEL. But I could be wrong.

If you just want to improve fuel economy, have you thought about changing your oil to full synthetic?

I just commented your video, your car is alot like mine, nice man. I have been thinking about just gutting my cats instead of spending the money on a track pipe, but im debating that still. im thinking if i get an actual muffler my exhaust would sound better too lol

Does anyone know if there is a difference between the 06-07 headers and cat pipe and 08+ headers and cat pipe. Are they the same?

I know the question has been asked in this thread, but I haven't seen an answer. Where can you find UEL headers for an 08+ 2.5i? Will the ones on ebay work eventhough they are for other years? or will some modifications have to be made? I'm looking for that boxer rumble but need the UEL for it!! Any ideas?
