Question common problems in MY98 2.5RS?

I'm going to look at a MY98 2.5 RS which I'm interested in buying. The car has low miles, ~21k.

What are the common problems which may afflict this car ?
What kind of things should I look for when I go check this car out?

Thanks.

[edit] BTW, if it matters, I'll be using this car for stock class autocross. Not on a national level, just regional stuff, but nevertheless, the car will remain "stock" per the SCCA's definition. [/edit]

A common problem with the MY98's in stock form is that they're too damn slow! I should know, I've got one. Other than that, I've not even heard of any problems associated with that particular year. Good luck and have fun!

Thumbs up

The only problem I have with mine is that it runs UNBELIEVEABLY rich with just an intake and exhaust. Nothing my S-AFR hasn't fixed though.

--The ORIGINAL clutch disc and pressure plate. They have since been superseded with a different unit.
---The bell housing to engine block has fewer bolts than 99-01. Possible flexing issue under heavy load. IMO I think it leads to excessive "crunchy" shifts.
---The only TSB I know of was for a few cars having the wrong viscosity grease inboard front half shaft seals.
---Less room to access sparkplugs due to DOHC heads. Plan for 30-45 minutes vice the normal 10 minutes.

***Get rid of the accordian shift booth.
***NO MAF problems ever, period!!

I just hit 100,000 miles and it still feels strong. Nothing has gone wrong with it.
