Scratch the Air idea I had, I just did some 'diagnostic' running with my car.
I took a digital thermometer that reads temperatures every 5 seconds and attached the sensor inside the snorkus, but left the black forward piece on for stock testing. Over a 20 minute drive on roads with stoplights, the highest reading I got from the air was a 87.6 degrees while waiting roughly 30 seconds for a light to turn green. At the end of the ride, the air going into the snorkus was only roughly 2 degrees more (69.7 degrees) than the outside temperature of 67 degrees (car temp indication). Since the snorkus has holes punched into it, the ramming of air would be hardly beneficial, so the money and time could be spent elsewhere. Oh well. I did take that dumb black thing off the front of the snorkus and got the same readings, so it's there to look pretty IMO. |

would the wide, flat, funnel shaped inlet behind the grill on a Legacy fit on an Impreza ?

My 05 RS had the bog exactly as it was described in this thread. I have since put the intake back to stock with the snorkus and eliminated the issue. The engine still feels really flat in the 1k to 2k RPM range, but now its a smooth flat rather than the bucking .
My best memory or this bogging issue was probably merging onto the 405 freeway from one of those stop lights/meters. Traffic was moving fast so i *tried* to take off quick, but bogged the engine and went straight into a fit of lurching and bucking (i was going uphill too). I'm sure if there was a camera at that meter watching traffic, the expression on my face would have been priceless. |

Depends ont he year, if it fits at all. If I'm correct, the funnel on the Legacy grabs air from the top of the front grille just below the hood. The 06/07 Impreza don't have any room to fit the funnel or to make it fit, everything is air tight right there.

The 06' and 07' WRX has the same funnel that the Legacy's have. Seems like it should fit.

It physically fits and there are bolt holes to secure it to. However, the turbo hoods have extra gasketing on the bottom to seal to the intake trumpet you guys are talking about. Also, the small end of the intake trumpet is larger than the NA snorkus, so you'll have to seal it up somehow.
I've got both a turbo hood and a turbo intake trumpet waiting to go on the car. However, I refuse to have a hood scoop and the hood is currently silver. So the swap is awaiting funds for painting the hood and getting a scoop delete. |

Are you talking about this thing (Similar ont he H4 I'd presume)?
When I look under my hood, I don't see any possible way for the air to reach it. The furthest front core is very tight against the front frame, and the area betweent he bottom of the hood and the front frame is sealed with a rubber seal. I'd be ecstatic if it would help, but I don't see any natural path of air for it in my car |

wow this post has really taken off from the last time i checked the thread... but anyway, i found the Injen CAI below on RalliTek built for my 07 2.5i Wagon, and i want to know if the Injens have problems with air/fuel ratios... especially this one, its $270 and i don't want to spend that if it will cause me problems, i'll just build the hybrid.

Apexanimal, where did you get the scoop, junkyard or Sube Parts? Have you tried it yet, and noticed anything? Seems like Funneling air from the grill should help something.

the picture has a zip tie around the body of it, but i've since "modified" the exit of the scoop so it fits securely onto the n/a snorkus... basically i cut two slight "V"s into the bottom corners of the exit and zip tied the end so it would become smaller and fit the n/a snorkus... yeah i've tried it... everything is smoother but power... hard to say really. i did it at the same time as the hybrid, but i figured it couldn't hurt... i also trimmed the hood rubber on the front side so that it would allow a bit more air to flow in... |

so the hybrid intake does need a reset ecu once you're finished installing?

Apex, What do you mean by, "Everything Seems Smoother" ?
I had come looking about an SRI, because the power seemed to drop off at higher revs, though it seems more so if I bring them up slower, but thought a short ram would help up high. Starting out it seems like I have to go easy on the throttle. I always seem to leave the car behind me far behind. Might be getting the Sube to start out smoothly, I slip the clutch more than I would like to, and give more gas. Haven't driven a stick in Many years, and AWD seems to make starting out smoothly, trickier. Only have 2500 mi on the car, and I'm adjusting, and many things seemed to have improved. Shifting out of 1st was tight, and the revs would drop a lot, and engaging the clutch for 2nd would jerk. I was reading on a site that the tran's are tight, and could take a long time (10K mi) to loosen up. It got better after 2K. Maybe could be a little easier, but it might get there in time. Can't figure out how that shifter linkage moves the gears.)) VF |

Just wanted to mention, that I'm an older dude, and got dinged up from chemicals that damaged all body systems, even my brain, and am trying to catch up on all the New stuff, like ECU's, MAF, MAP, and O2 sensors. I like making mods to make things better. Put seat belts in a 52' Plymouth instead of fixing the door saftey latch, but that was before I got into fixing things. Kept me in the car in a skid in the rain, and maybe saved my life. Then I got figuring out how to Fix Problems, and looking for tires with the best wet weather traction.
I put a transistorized ignition in my 62' Dodge, in 62'. It was just a transistor that amplified the spark, and had a hotter coil. Only lasted 6 mo, and quit at the Top of a suspension bridge, and I coasted down, figured the problem, disconnecting it and heaved the sucker. Never wanted to see electronics again. I had had to figure out the plug fouling problem on the car at 3K mi, and ever 600mi after. Dealer wouldn't change to a hotter plug, and rebuilt the motor, which the light, breaking in oil made them last 1200 mi. Hotter plugs cured the problem. I have an 86' Chevy Celebrity with a carb, and simple electronics, and now the Sube, with all the NEW stuff. I have a LOT to learn, and trying to. My brain damage is a lot better, but physically I want to do more than I am able except on a rare day. That hasn't stopped me, and I have a bunch of things to add to the Sube, and Keep getting more to add. Just got a GPS unit for it, and have to learn to work that, to make driving easier to unfamiliar places, handling the car in heavier traffic than I can handle comfortably now, and back to a stick, which I prefer, but gives me a workout physically, though I'm getting better rowing the gears. If I can ever get the Recaro seats from an 84' Mustang SVO I picked up to put in the Sube, the seating will be more comfy. I need all the helps I can get.(( These forums are a BIG help, especially for me. I picked up a shop manual on CD, and a Haynes for the Legacy's to have a paper manual and pictures of a similar, since they don't have them for the Impreza's, to make it easier to understand these beasts. My 86 Chevy, though more complicated than the Old cars, is simple in comparison. I keep trying to buy an 84-86' Mustang SVO turbo 4cyl, to try to go back to where I left off. The Sube is similar on many ways, which is what got me interested, and the NA has the same power, plus AWD. VF |

with the accordian pipe, mini-resonator, and torque box out of there the air has a much smoother path so when the air is really moving it doesn't have as much resistance... might be minor... but with n/a's every little bit helps... now onto the coolant bypass mod |

trying to figure what hoses plug into the torque box, and have to go into the Hybrid tube? Looks like mine has a PCV hose from each bank of the motor, and there is one with a white plastic sleeved item, that has a electrical connector plugged into it that goes into the front of the torque box next to the throttle body. Played with it to see how it connects to the TBox, but it looks like it might twist and lock. Didn't want to force it and break it off. Couldn't find it on my Impreza shop manual on CD, or my Haynes one Legacy's.
The Tube for the hybrid that I I got only has 2 nipples to connect vacuum lines. so will have to Tee 2 of them, I figure the 2 PCV's. VF |

Hey whats this is a great thread. If this was mentioned I apologize but recently I was fed up with the burp sound from my set up, which had the silencer delete and a Perrin panel filter. To remedy, I removed the delete elbow, sawed the large box portion off of the original stock snorkus, and re-installed it. The snorkus now resembles the delete elbow, but the noise is way down(from the elobw set up) and it is less restrictive than the stock snorkus. It now has a hole that draws air from the fender as well as through the intake piping. To enhance the flow to the stock air duct, i removed two inches of the rubber hood seal to allow freer airflow of cool air near the draw point. The sound/power balance is great, and it may compliment this hybrid system well.
