^ exactly. 60C is cool! I hit 67C with my 1080 earlier while playing Call of Duty.

Random question, but does anyone have recommendations for recent-ish PC games (past 5 years or so) that are must-plays and are hopefully cheaper/on sale now? Anything FPS or action/adventure/single-player type games, just no MMOs or RTS. I literally haven't played anything except WoW and Overwatch (and some Star Wars BF2) during that timespan. All this new hardware coming out has me itching to upgrade but given the scarcity of things, I think I'll wait until spring/summer. In the meantime, methinks my 4690K/GTX 970 still has some life in it that I should take advantage of while I can.
On another note, I received the Gigabyte M27Q I was talking about a few pages ago in the mail yesterday. Haven't opened it yet but I'll let you all know my thoughts when I do. |

The Bioshock and recent Far Cry (3-5) Series are two of my favorites.

Alan Wake
Fallout 4 Deus Ex: Mankind Divided (or Human Revolution, i liked MK better) Dishonored 1 and 2 The Talos Principle - this one really came out of left field for me. Great puzzle game in the vein of Portal, but has an amazing amount of lore/story in game that led me down quite a deep rabbit hole. |

"Tomb Raider (2013)" and "Rise of the Tomb Raider" are both pretty good, can probably be found for cheap, and should work fine on a 970.

Its time for a new PC. My old i5 2500k isnt cutting it anymore.
When i can find stock.... ryzen9 5900x, 3070, x570 mobo as a start. Im confused on the ram. It will support up to ddr4 4600 but **** those prices. Will 16gb of 4400 be enough? Im ok with spending $2000 ish since it will last me a long time. |

I'm building a similar system, bit by bit.. just got a 5600x on order.
From what I've read DDR4-3600 to -4000 is the sweet spot for 5000 series CPUs, but from testing that spending extra on lower latency CL16 and -3600 frequency is better than higher frequency and higher latency. I'm going to get a 16GB 2 stick kit of -3600 CL16 and see if there's anything (like MS Flight Simulator) that eats up enough to throw a second kit in. |

32GB is going to get you a lot closer to forever than 16. I am thinking that there will be new titles soon that benefit from 32GB more than just a negligible amount. I think start citizen might already be there, but that is unoptimized to put it lightly.

Finally bit the bullet and went for a new laptop. My 10 year old HP is still kicking and is still better than most budget laptops, but it has some issues. But, I think with a new battery it'll bring some money on fleabay.
I bought this semi impulse, I wonder how long it will take me to miss my Blu Ray drive. ASUS TUF Gaming A15 - 15.6" 144 Hz - AMD Ryzen 7 4800H - GeForce RTX 2060 - 16 GB DDR4 - 1 TB PCIe SSD |

Thanks for the game recommendations. Control and a few others are on sale right now so I'll check them out. If anyone else needs games, there's a ton on sale right now:

I bought Baldur's Gate 3 and Cyberpunk 2077 to get them off the list. I started Baldur's Gate today and it's ****ing hard. Maybe it's the class (wizard) but ****. Grease followed by flames gets old fast. I mean it works, sort of, but jeez. Meanwhile the cleric NPC is like "I smite you, and I smite you and you there! I smite you too!"

I'd agree, but this is 5th edition and everything I've read says they basically made all the classes relatively comparable. Which is why I'm wondering why the Githyanki can barely hit ****, I have to grease and run and the ****ing annoying cleric is doing more than twice either of our damage? I mean, I'm doing 1 D6 the ****ing cleric is doing 2D8. WTF?!

Yesterday I was playing around with overclocking my CPU. Turns out my setup does a stable 5Ghz well. That's when I noticed the coil whine. Pretty sure it's coming from my new 3090 and it only happens under load. I'm damn certain it didn't exist before. I reloaded my bios defaults, but the coil whine persists.
I can't imagine it's coincidence that this sound is occurring now, but I can't figure out what would have caused it. It's a real shame, though. Should I try replacing the PSU? |

Turn everything off and air dust the crap out of it? I doubt psu is your culprit but maybe. I'm no expert but, you could probably warranty it. Just may want to strategize a bit.
Or just sell it for huge profit, live off a lower end and have two gpu's long run. |
