Default IAG staged block dilemma

So I am trying to figure out what iag staged short block is right for me. I'm getting opposing opinions about what one to go with from my builder/tuner and iag.

I've been doing tons of research and figured that the closed deck either 2.5 or trojan was right for me. As my goals are around 400whp for the track and 500 for the street. I'd like it to be reliable and last a while too.

My builder who is a certified installer suggested I go with a stage 2 for my goals as it won't have as much heat soak and not as much wear and tear as tolerances are tighter. I also know a guy who is pushing 620whp on a 2.5 block that is tuned by them and is going to be adding tons more.

Talked with James from iag and he suggested I go with the 2.5 block and that tolerances are no issue only in maybe the stage 4 block and that cd do not have heat soak issues on the track.

So yeah completely unsure what direction to go in and any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Follow what James recommends and you can't go wrong.

Thanks, yeah that's what I was thinking, been going back and forth between the two. Closed deck is like 600 more though, but I would have some room for expansion if I desired. Plus I am thinking it would last way longer. Closed deck seems to be the general consencus. I think my builder is trying to save me some money which is great and I know they could do it as its been done before, but how long would it last? Espeacially when its going to get beat on at the track.

Toss up on that one Boss. Don't know how long it would last.

Yeah I get ya could last a week or years haha. Thoughts on getting the stage 2 tuff but lowering the power goals a bit to say 450hp on street and detune to 400 on track? How would the semi closed deck stand up on track as opposed to closed deck?

Closed deck is the way to go. But having said that there is a GR running in Street class at Gridlife that has had a semi-closed deck stage 2 in his race car for going on 3 years. It finally pushed coolant through the head gasket at a race back in the summer. They replaced head gaskets and it ran two more events. Their plan is to go to a closed deck block and refresh this engine for backup. They were in the low 400 AW horsepower. Search Halka Racing on IG.
They were also using a S209 stock location turbo due to class rules.
