HVAC Blower Motor Removal Help.
So I need to replace the blower motor in my 04 wrx cause mine squeeled and quit working. So I have another one and went to take things apart yesterday. So I removed the glove box (easy) and I can clearly see the blower motor. I unplugged the connector and removed the bolt on the far right. I simply snapped the front clips on the old blower motor housing.....easier than trying to pry them loose.
Now the blower motor itself is connected to a upper white tray where the panel cabin filter is......now this is where it gets tricky. On the back of the blower motor (near the fire wall) there are 2-3 clips that need to be undone (I looked at the new one for referrence) So how and the hell and I supposed to get at these?!? I dont have umpa-lumpa hands. Anyone offer some advise? It almost seems like the upper (white piece) assembly needs to be removed but I looked and couldnt tell how to remove it. I NEED to get this working cause its getting cold and I have no heat BTW I bought my car in 07 with 27K on it and when I removed the glove box I noticed that I dont have a cabin panel filter in there WTF Thanks guys

did you ever figure this out? I need to replace the same thing for my 2004 wrx wagon and its gonna be 115 here in phx. local shop wants $400 says the part is $250 alone. found a used one for $35 and have the glove box removed just unsure how to remove the old motor. any insight/help would be great.

I've never done it without taking out the dash bar. Which would entail taking the upper dash out too. But I've never replaced JUST a blower motor. It was simply in the way of taking out the main harness. Keep in mind though, taking the dash out completely and putting it back in should probably take 3 hours total. 1.5 hours if you're quick.

DIY for motor replacement when MOLDED into the housing!
A bit late to the game for this thread, but I just fixed my son's '04 Rex blower motor (bad bearings) and was able to sneak some combinations of stubby screwdrivers and 1/4 sockets into the various tiny areas that have to be accessed for various bits of the total project. I DIDN'T have to take out the dash bar, but as indicated it can be slow and frustrating! I probably have averaged sized hands... Here is a link for a DIY for replacing the motors that are molded into the blower housing, thus saving a fair bit of money!

Nice
Very nice. i knew about the clips and then the case would be halved but i was unable to get to them so i went the long route of removing the dash and bar.
good to know there is a way to do it without making a mess. |

There's that one nut up top that was a pita to get out. I used a rachet wrench and bloodied up my hand pretty good but it came out. When I put it back I left that but off incase I ever have to get back in there. It sits fine without that nut

I did it on an 07, and it was the worst repair I have done on my car! Frigging nightmare! Essentially just keep cursing and jerking until it is out...
