Default Happy mother's day....

To all you bad muthas!

But seriously what's ot's mom day gifts looking like? Or maybe you don't? Idk....

My mom gets the same thing for Christmas, her birthday and mother's day... Wine and candles. She loves them. She's pretty anti clutter so it's perfect for her... Drink the wine, burn the candles, done. No flowers to water, no trinkets to put on the shelf and dust. Just drink, burn, done and all that's left are the memories.

Pretty sure she's not tired of it yet.

My wife likes those things as well but today we got to see our friends and have lunch for the first time in awhile now that we're all vaxed up and the place we went to wasn't crowded either so that was good. So that's all she wanted but I surprised her with some diamond earrings so she was pretty happy about that.. And to boot my dad offered to take our 3 kids over night! Bonus.

Nice!

Wife always goes to the Pasadena Flea Market with her mom but I think they're going somewhere in Huntington Beach now. Furniture/house **** shopping. I'll just make sure the house is super clean for her as that's always a present with kids.

Kids and I got her some plants that she wanted and a gift card for a mani/pedi along with the usual stuff from school. She's also getting a ring for our 10yr we just had.

We go out to eat. Mother's Day is another hallmark holiday around here.

Got the wife an in home massage, an immersion blender that she wanted, and brunch at the local tapas place. Hope the rain stays away since the the reservation is for outdoor dining.

Mom got a card and flowers.

My special needs niece was playing in a Special Olympics soccer tournament yesterday within a two hour drive of me.

Saw my mom and sister for the first time since Christmas 2019, so that was nice.

I was a server/waiter for many years during my college days (the money was decent and dinner shifts meant I could go to class during the day). Mother's Day is hands down the busiest day in the restaurant industry, similar to Black Friday for retail. Valentine's Day is a close second but way more manageable because it's mostly couples, whereas for Mother's Day you get huge parties with the entire family/extended family. I absolutely dreaded working on Mother's Day. Father's Day is usually pretty dead/normal because dads just want to stay home and slap some meat on the grill rather than going out to a restaurant

No gifts in my family because we're not really big on holidays other than Thanksgiving and Christmas, that's just how our family dynamic is. Normally we just get together and have a nice dinner at home

EXACTLY! None of that half socializing, noisy restaurant crap. Just me, a beer, and a steak.

My mom hates store bought or fancy delivered flowers. She grows her own roses and anyone of us siblings who send her roses is gonna get a scolding. Tells us : I raised you better! Send me the money you were going to waste on roses and I will use it to eat out.

My mom loves fancy delivered flowers. I got her a blue orchid this year and she was thrilled. I only buy her flowers and things she can plant or keep alive versus cut flowers. She still has her "johnny rose" from like 7-8 years ago planted out front of their house.

I did flowers too. But this is probably the last time I'll ever do it.

I ordered them Thursday for Saturday delivery from a florist 2 miles from my mom.

$59 bouquet with 20% discount and free delivery. Perfect.

Get all the way to the very end, have CC info and all that info entered and just the last step.

BAM! Surprise mothaf**ker! $25 service fee!

WHAP! Sucka! $5 fuel surcharge!

At this point, in for a penny, in for a pound, right? Total was nearly $90. For 10 tulips wrapped in brown paper and no vase.

After I complete the order there's some additional weasel words about free delivery is just a "window" and actual delivery may be anytime between Friday and Monday.

Talked to mom Sunday. Nope. No flowers.

This afternoon I get an email asking me to call as there was a problem with my order.

Yeah, the problem was they didn't make a delivery, nor even attempt one.

"We can deliver on Wednesday. Is that OK?"

Ummm...No. For $90 you'll jolly well be on time. I'd like to cancel for full refund. You could have told me Saturday you weren't going to make it.

"How about a 20% discount on your next order?"

No, thank you. I just want a refund.

"How about $20 off?"

No thanks. I am only interested in a refund.

"Okay, let me put you on hold while I get that started."

(5min later) "How about if we upgrade you to a $70 bouquet for the same price?"

Just a refund.

This went on another 10min. Clearly just trying to frustrate me into giving up or having something else come up that forced me to hang up.

The third time she took me off hold:
"So what about the 20% discount?"

At that point I informed her I'd be hanging up now and calling the CC company to do a charge back. Not just disputing the charges.

That seemed to be delivered like a slap to the face. She got quiet for a few seconds and then said I'd receive a cancelation notice in a few minutes, which I did.

Now I gotta find something else. "Ma, I *swear* I had flowers coming! No, I wouldn't be happy if you just disappeared. Ma. Ma. I called you, didn't I? Ma. No, I didn't wait until the last second to order them. You want me to forward you the email from my order?!? No, I didn't use that florist. No, not that one either. Yes, I'm sure they are nice. Ma. Ma....."
