So I’ve been struggling with my driver lately ... which is extremely frustrating because I’m really dialed in with the rest of my clubs. I carry a 3 wood and 5 wood and both of those are in a really good place. Irons and wedges feel and perform well. Putter ... who knows ... heh

Anyway in an attempt to get my driver sorted out, I’ve been spending a lot of time working on it. The swing is so janky right now that I have the occasional dreaded top of the crown strike. I know when it happens because it makes that horrible sound and the telltale mark on the crown.

Disaster struck a couple of nights ago. I was with my friends playing a sim round (that’s all we have for the next few months) and I was avoiding even using the driver instead relying on 220 yard drives with my 3 wood. Was playing well so I pull out the driver on 14 and that dreaded sound happens with the ball popping straight up. After the natural ball breaking from the guys, I go to wipe off the top of the club and there is now a noticeable crack on the crown. Ugh ... it’s an Epic Flash driver that I just bought in May of 2019 and they ain’t cheap.

I sent an email to Calloway asking if this kind of thing is covered and I have my fingers crossed ... but I don’t expect much. Golf equipment manufacturers tend to be pretty good with these kinds of things (I did have a really good experience with Taylormade a few years ago), but since the crack is a result is constant mis-hits (stupid filter thought I was typing ****), my confidence level is low.

Do you really think repeated mis-hits cracked it? Seems like golf clubs would have more tolerance than that and that it would take an awful lot of hits like that to cause damage. Since it's less than a year old I'll bet they cover it.

I've never seen or heard of something like that...good luck with Callaway. They tend to have really good customer service.

I'm sure the mis-hits didn't help, but I've owned a bunch of drivers (and I've gone through this kind of struggle before) and never had anything crack before. I actually really like the driver (when my swing is on, it's easily the longest, most accurate driver I've ever owned) and I REALLY like the adjustable hosel Calloway uses on their driver since it doesn't mess with the grip alignment

It's not a huge crack, but I suspect that it will probably get worse the more I use it

I would be a bit surprised if they didn't cover it. Where did you buy it? Typically you can take it to an authorized retailer and they will work with a rep to get it replaced. I've had really good luck with smaller local shops as opposed to a big box retailer.

I bought a Taylormade M2 3w in early 2016 at my club in Columbus, Ohio. I moved to phoenix shortly after the purchase. In late 2017 the face started denting/caving in (not too bad but in certain light you could see the dent/caving across the face). I took it to a smaller golf shop here in Phoenix and got it replaced by TM. I didn't buy the club there, I had never been a customer in that shop, and the club was 18 months old at that point. They showed it to the TM rep, he agreed it shouldn't happen and within 5 days I had a new club.

They even swapped out my aftermarket shaft and installed it for free in the new head.

See what Callaway says but if it doesn't go anywhere, take it a local shop and see if they can help you out. That should not happen to the crown through normal wear and tear.

Same here. Had an M1 that developed a crack on the top where the face and carbon top came together. Took it to the place where I bought it. No questions asked and a new one in a week.

Meanwhile I caved the face in on my Cobra hybrid and all they did was send me a 10% coupon code I could've found in 5 seconds via Google.

I had one of the movable weights in my TM M1 3 wood strip out, and rather than just sending me a replacement weight, they sent me a brand new newer M1 3w head to replace it.

Callaway and TM are good companies who stand by their product. I doubt I'll ever go back to Cobra.

If you guys never hear from me again, this weekend is why.

Tomorrow - 6am flight out of Melbourne through ATL into Myrtle at 11am. My buddies are driving from VA to arrive at noon.
1:15p Tee time for 18 at Legends Heathland

Saturday: 8am Tee time for 18 at True Blue, then 1:15p Tee time for 18 at Caledonia

Sunday: 9:30a Tee time for 18 at The Dunes Club - Then we drive home Sunday night.

72 holes in ~50 hours then 7 hour drive home.

Oh and here is the weather for Friday after the overnight snow showers clear out in the morning.

Tomorrow 02/21 20% / 0 in
Partly cloudy skies with gusty winds. High 42F. Winds N at 20 to 30 mph. Winds could occasionally gust over 40 mph.

But at least I'll die doing what I love.

I just watched the NLU crew youtube video of them playing Caledonia and True Blue 2 days ago. They look really neat.

I also saw how the eastern Carolinas are in a winter weather advisory for tonight. Not much snow towards the coast, but cold and wet and lots of wind...hope you have good cold weather gear/gloves, and maybe move up a tee or 2 for tomorrow

I have never played either one, so I am pretty psyched about playing both. I've heard great things. That drive down to Pawleys Saturday morning is going to suck tired and hungover though! I am usually not a fan of target golf, which I think Caledonia sort of is, so we'll see. Thankfully the weather is supposed to improve by Saturday.

I had a similar issue with Puma golf shoes (Puma owns Cobra or at the time they did)… I had 2 pair of the same model of Puma golf shoes. Within a few months, the sole broke away from the top of the shoe... on both pairs. I emailed Puma with photos of the shoes. They all but told me to go fly a kite.

Haven't bought a Puma or Cobra product since.

I was hitting too high on the face and had to start teeing the ball 3/4" lower to stop skying the ball. Helped with better contact. I was lucky the sky marks buffed out.

I do like Puma's shorts and pants but haven't bought any of their clubs or shoes.

Calloway sent me an email asking me to call them.

They took my name, address and phone number. Emailed me a UPS slip and told me to send back the head when the new one arrives. They are even sending a different shaft than the one I had. Rep told me to test both shafts and keep the one I like best. When I decide, send back the broken head and the other shaft. No questions asked. Only question they asked was to ask me if the top of the head showed signs of abuse. I said I play three times a week and the club looks like I play three times week. Guy laughed and said that's what they like to hear. "Enjoy the new club."

If everything he said is the way it goes, I couldn't be happier. Never asked for a receipt, pics or an explanation as to what happened. They even apologized for not having the shaft I had in stock. This is how you make a customer for life.

In my experience the past 5-10 years or so, Callaway and TM have been having a contest to see who can out customer service the other. They are the titans and they absolutely stand by their products nowadays.

Good to hear they got this settled to your liking.

Played a sim round last night, and made another slight adjustment to my swing, doing something similar Johnny said above, but instead of the alignment stick, I just put the club down on the ground about 2 feet behind the ball, with shoulders already part turned at the club, and then started the take away from there.

See, I've been suffering a slice and I had tried a few other things before to no avail and I know much of my issue is in my take away and swing path. Last night solidified that. I hadn't seen numbers like this in a long time... spin rate down, almost no side spin, launch angle almost optimal, swing speed between 105-110. 270-280 yds, and more importantly, straight.

However, this screwed me sometimes. Hitting it through landing areas.

I need to work on my scoring irons more, I couldn't land on a green to save my life. At least I may have figured out one part...

I've done just about everything I can so far to fix my slice. Turning my rear shoulder back and turning my lead wrist in (ala DJ but not as extreme) has helped the most. I still fade it 9/10 times but it's worlds better. I just need to turn my hips and shoulders like I know how.

Ugh rain tomorrow for most of the day. Gonna take a long lunch at the range today to get some of the practice I need. I'm all caught up with work and it's about to get super busy next month so now's the time. So looking forward to the time change.

I wanted to regrip the Mini Driver and take to the range but the shipment has been delayed. So hopefully it's here this afternoon and there's a break in the rain tomorrow. I'm playing a new exec on Sunday that I haven't played yet and it's got some narrow par 4s.

I agree with this... However, I used to pretty much exclusively play Titleist... I have no idea what their customer service is like though because their products seemingly never fail.

Yeah, I never had to worry about anything Titleist...except when I got fit for and custom ordered my wedges I requested the grips be turned logo down and they ignored it. Not a big deal. I've never had a club of theirs break. 2 drivers, 1 set of irons, and many wedges. Well, I did break a wedge (shaft) but that was me having a violent disagreement with a shot and the club and the ground were unwilling participants

Day 1 down and it was rough. The travel from Florida this morning and weather here in Myrtle (41° 20-30mph winds) made for a difficult round this afternoon. Shot 92 and didn't lose a ball. Had a few drinks and dinner at Sea Captains House and we are already going to bed.

It's supposed to be 50+ and less windy tomorrow, but a frost delay is likely. They adjusted our reservation for us so we are playing Caledonia once they open then 9 holes at True Blue after that.

So you're there when winter hits for the weekend? Yikes.

Playing tomorrow, supposed to be 45°-50°, almost shorts weather!

I played a new exec today and shot pretty well despite some rain and wet greens. Luckily there was a closed up food stand with a little roof to keep me and my clubs somewhat dry. Then it was nice and sunny and the pars were rollin. I had the place to myself so I hit some second balls and it was good practice. Greens were big and average yardage was really nice. Bunkers were well maintained too. Probably 150 average yardage and par 56 w/two par 4s.

New Clicgear cart is awesome

Let it rain. Hot dog hut in the background was my shelter.

An hour later. Pitch from 60.

Greens were really nice.

Fortunately yesterday was gorgeous. Cold in the morning, but bearable. We played 36 holes at Caladonia and used every bit of daylight to do it. Great day.

Caladonia is truly a spectacular and special golf course. I loved it. Shot 85 and 90. Long day that definitely impacted the last 9 holes.

Dunes Club today at 9:30, sunny and high 50s today.

Jealous. I'm sitting in bed with a fever watching the WGC in Mexico City, though.

Nice pics!

Played another new executive course today. One 50 foot birdie putt and a bombed tee shot were my highlights. Walking back to back days took it out of me. want revenge on today's course.

I think the mini driver is going to help if it's as reliable as beginners say.

Watching Mexico City. Justin Thomas' tree tunnel shot was amazing.
