Mixed feelings on this so far after watching the first 7 episodes. They set the story up well (more on that in a bit) and the non-racing animation is good. It's entertaining. I also like, while brief, the cameos, especially how the racing series was formed. So, that's the good parts. (And nice to know that same character went on to do what he did for a career, which is not racing)

The nits, while minor, are distracting. 1) Fan service. They even blatantly called it out from within the show. No need for that. 2) Re-using characters from ID. Good looking driver/star, goofy pudgy guy and tall "not as talented" already a racer. (i.e., Itsuki and Koichiro). The car racing is nothing like ID. Not long enough on the "battles" and switch from battle for position to battle for position. Too much spent on other characters, not enough on Kanata.

It's still fun, but not too into the characters yet. Just feels a bit... off.

Starting Hunter x Hunter for probably the sixth time. I think this'll be my second run through in English dub. I'm making it my sleepytime show.

Just saw the Requiem of Vengeance trailer.

So is this the UC Gundam show western fans have been dreaming of?

1. OG One Year War setting
2. Glorifying Zeon
3. Starring adult grunt MS pilots, no angtsy teenagers with magic powers
4. Gritty realistic war aesthetic (Space Band of Brothers, etc)

I almost just walked into it this afternoon when I checked the listings. "An anime on IMAX? Interesting..."

I just binged the **** out of Frieren. HIGHLY recommend, best anime I've seen this season.

The storytelling in Frieren is a breath of fresh air honestly. I haven't enjoyed a character driven story this much since Spice and Wolf.

2024 new shows starting to roll out. Can't remember so many manga-based ones (I've been) looking forward to. Hope they are treated well - not rushed or having too much cut out. Isekai and fantasy/adventure still going strong. So far, liking:

Dungeon Meshi/Delicious in Dungeon
The Wrong Way to Use Healing Magic
Nozomanu Fushi no Boukensha/The Unwanted Undead Adventurer
Mato Seihei no Slave (lots of "plot")
My Instant Death Ability is So Overpowered...

Hi. I recently finished:

Frieren (seems like it is done for now, anyways). Super thumbs up.
Stardust Telepath. Like a bazillion other anime, but this one has girls building model rockets.
The Girl I Like Forgot her Glasses. Despite it being agonizing the way Kokura waffles and is such a creampuff, I enjoyed it. I liked the CGI animation in this one.
Finally got around to watching Punchline. That was cool.
Re-watched Bocchi the Rock a few weeks ago. Still love it.

If something were to happen to Crunchyroll and YouTube, I would die.

Frieren will have 28 episodes so it's nowhere near done.

FYI, Netflix has been adding more episodes of One Piece to their lineup. They've just added up to Episode 516 (the end of the Marineford Arc / Summit War Saga) recently in dual audio.

Also, they're starting to add first-runs now (subbed) with the start of the Egghead Arc (episode 1089) as of Jan, 13 2024. Looks like they'll be adding episodes every week, with a one week delay to get the subs done.

I just saw that Unreal Mustang last night too. HAHA! Awesome.

Unreal is getting... real. I need to get back into it. Moved over from Lightwave in the early 2000s and then had a career shift into training and training dev and away from video production. Yeah. I think I have a goal this year.

Saw the Yu Yu Hakusho Netflix Live Action series. As a casual who watched some YYH in the late 90s but never really got into the show or manga, it wasn't a bad adaptation, but 5 eps was way too short and they crammed in and chopped up the story a bit too much, so it felt more like a live action rendition of 'YYH's Greatest Hits' than a coherent story. I did like the actors who played Yuusuke and Kuwabara, if they sucked, the show would have fallen apart IMHO.

Also many of the characters looked like laughably bad cosplay, I've seen better wigs and outfits at many anime cons.
