Default When do you use the fog lights??

I use mine all the time because I think it looks cool. The only problem is that some other drivers are flashing me thinking I have my brights or something.

When do you turn on your fog lights??

I turn mine on only when visibility is lower than normal, such as snow, rain, fog, etc.

I don't drive with them on normally at night, because I got sick of people flashing me with their brights, and I didn't want to get that nice browning effect people have talked about here.

grey, or is it gray?

Have a Nice Day?

Um, you use them if it's foggy. Or if it is raining or snowing very hard.
It really annoys me when a lifted Exploder or Excretion has the fogs blaring right in my mirrors on a clear night. However, the fog lights in your car should be aimed down and not be blinding anybody...

I would only use my Foglights when:
a) It's foggy.
b) It's raining/snowing.
c) It's really dark because no or weak street lights...like my block's driveway. Wouldn't want some lunatic going in the other direction running into me.

Otherwise on the street...I leave them off. I don't want to blind opposing traffic and risk a headon collision.

I use them in low visability situations... like when it's dark Seriously, I keep them on all the time. I've never been flashed... and the 9007's in the MY02's need all the illumination help they can get.

Does anyone ever actually turn your lights off on the handle?

I just leave mine on with the fogs all the time cuz it does look so cool.

I like how the lights even when on and ya turn off the car they shut off too so ya never even have to turn on and off. So ya never forget so thats about it.

Browning?? Is that like if ya left the lamp on all the time and it would start to kinda yellow or brown the inner lense?

Hasnt happened to me so far!

Use mine in fog, rain, dark and to command others to move out of my way. Yes, they're bright.

I only use mine in the rain or fog when your are supposed to. I don't want my car to be mistaken for some GM product, those guys seem to have the fog lamps on all the time.

I usually use mine when it's raining or foggy. Or when I forget to turn them off, or when I feel like turning them on for the hell of it...

I use them in..........FOG.........or other poor visibility conditions. Other drivers are flashing you because they find the use of fog lights, or any extra lights, to be damned irritating when they are not truly needed. I can't tell you how many jokers I see driving around with high beams/brights on all time, fogs and/or driving lights on all the time, even on well lit city streets in good weather. I guess some think that's cool. To me, it's just stupid and inconsiderate of drivers approaching you from the opposite direction.

I use them almost all the time - darkness, fog, rain, etc.

I have yet to be flashed, stopped by cops, etc. They don't
seem to be too bright for drivers around here...

I use mine at night on curvy roads, and in neighborhoods. They shine a little farther to the sides than my low beams, and i aimed them so that they don't blind oncoming traffic as they come around a corner (i.e. down a bit). I set them up as lower than parallel to my low beams, then moved them down until people stopped flashing me.

Also, i turn them off if the roads are wet, but visibility is ok, since they just add to the reflection off the wet pavement. Talk about blinding people. =P

edit: I was stopped in Oklahoma this summer for having them on. The cop said that they were legally to be treated like high beams, i.e. turn them off when there's oncoming traffic. He added "especially on a vehicle like this", whatever that meant.

Their on all the time. I've only seen fog like 2 or 3 times.

Funny, I was reading aboot people getting flashed and it has never happened to me.Then I saw MrHorsPwer said the same thing. must be a regional type thing.

Actually that's just bizzaar, I go past litterally 100 people a night with the fog lights on and I've never been "Blinded" like you all talk aboot...Bunch of Sallys!

I can't see how fog light could blind other drivers since they're pointed so low. Driving lights would blind someone sooner than fog lights.

I stood in front of my car with the all the lights on ( it was shortly after I got it and wanted to see what it looked like with the light on), I noticed that the driving light hit my chest while the fog lights hit my shins.

I don't find they contribute much to average night driving, but poor visibilty condition can occur suddenly ( turning onto a dark road, going over a blind crest into a gulley filled with fog ) so it seems to me that keeping them on is safer than not.

The pattern of a fog lamp wont blind an oncoming driver. They are used to disperse light directly in front of the vehicle at a very low angle of incidence. In this way they avoid reflecting off of the water droplets in the atmosphere when its foggy, snowing or raining. That is why they are called fog lights.

Many people leave their fog lights on all the time. Doesn't matter what vehicle they are driving. If its equipped with fog lights, they are burning. Some have even gone so far as to rewire the lights to keep them on with the high beams. They do this because it looks 'cool.'

I suppose to some it does look cool to use a feature designed for a particular application when the environment does not support such design features. Myself, I find it smacks of ignorance.

There is a definate, "look at me, I'm cool," aura surrounding fog-light-burning-all-the-time cars. But then again it suits our society's 'me first, me, me," attitude. It is also possible many people suffer from a lack of self-esteem and use their fog lights as a way to draw attention to themselves. Again, the, "Hey look at me, I'm cool," syndrome.

But in the end, they harm no one and serve to irritate those anal enough to care that someone else is dumb enough to leave their fog lights on all the time.

When I was 25 I thought my SE-R's lights were cool and kept them on all the time, but now when I see people driving their Saabs, Subarus, and SUVs around with them on I laugh at how 'cool' they must think they are.

Use them when you need them! Especially if you're already driving a newgen Impreza, who are you trying to impress with your extra lights?

Thanks for all the responses.

I think now I will leave the fog lights off unless there seems to be some good reason to have them on!!

THanks

Yeah, those damn trucks are EVERYWHERE! The high mounted lights on SUVs and trucks are really annoying in my somewhat low Probe. The beams reflect off all of the mirors and directly into the eyes! I have never thought fogs on cars to be annoying, since they are aimed low, but fogs on SUVs add to the misery.

I wish I had fogs....
