Default 04 Sti DYNO'd and 1/4 mile!

A car tester at the qualcomm 1/8th drags in San diego had the new 04 STI car for a week and had taken it through its paces thus far. I talked to him a bit on the performance of the vehicle...which was beautiful to see in person. Anyhow, it dyno'd 250whp ( don't know what type of dyno) THe turbo is an IHI VF30 which suprised me since I hadn't heard anything on the type of turbo. I figured something a little larger for the bump in displacement, but what do I know. I didn't ask how much boost it runs. It ran 13.0 flat in the quarter ( didn't ask where). As for comparison purposes, he recently tested the Evo8 and said it doesn't even compare to the new Sti.

This car's going to be a monster.

That would amaze even me if it were true... That magazine guy would also be in big trouble if he leaked that info

Geez, that would be impressive... but i guess it's realistic considering there are evo owners out there claiming low 13's running stock.

As long as his name/mag doesn't leak out all should be good. So those who know keep your mouth shut.

Ive only heard 14's stock for the EVO. At least with actual time slips to back it up.

There's a bunch running mid 13s with timeslips scanned on evolutionm.net, with one guy even managing 13.1-13.2 stock, I don't think that was with race gas either.

The 14s were probably from the former Lancer owners..

13 flat would be nice. At least my friend with an e46 M3 can't talk smack.

Can't wait for my STi.

FYI. He was running a consistent 8.7 sec 1/8 mile with launches of 1.8 - 2.0 sec 60 feet at the Q tonight.

Hmmm. 1.8-2.0 60's but only consistant 8.7, yet still was managed 13.0 best run. What were his other runs? Getting only 8.7 with a 1.8 sixty while still able to get low 13 means this guy didn't doesn't shift well and the STi has a strong top end. 8.4's would make more sense to me.

hmmm... I would have expected better than 8.7 if it managed flat 13s on the 1/4 mile.

I was there as well.. and i had a camera with me. It was sweet seeing it, sitting in it, getting a feel for the shifter, (which is not notchy at all and easily falls into place), and we were just looking over the entire car..

STI rollup
with SRT4

The race

I have pictures as well, i just need to move them from the camera.

They were taken with a F707's camera function.

Pictures, pictures, pictures - I want pictures!

An Evo hit 13.7 at the local drag strip last weekend. This was the first local event, probably the drivers first time drag racing his Evo as well.

The best slip says 13.185. He thinks that the EVO has it in it to do 12.9xx stock. This guy been drag racing for 19 years. I'm sure that the average guy on the drag scene will be able to pull mid 13's with a little practice. I hope that the STi will be just as strong. Low 13's out of the box is insanely fast.

For the turbo, Glenn Wallace has mentioned in another thread that it may be a new IHI unit. From the car show cars, the STi definitely had the IHI F55 housing markings, which is what the VF30 and 34 use, but it could be something else inside.

There are always some cars that are faster than others. Most of the Evos have been reported in the mid-high 13s, which is still quite good I'd say.

Wonder why neither Road and Track nor SCC could do low 13's with their Evo's then? SCC has tested several 300 hp Euro and Jay-damn Evo 7's and USDM 8's and has never gotten anywhere near that. I'm sorry but a 13.1 in a USDM EVO is like getting 13.6 in a stock REX. It's almost half a sec faster than the fastest times from reputable sources. I hate to sound like a cynic but there's some weird information coming from Evo owners about the Evo and sometimes about the STI. Keeping my grain of salt handy.

Being affiliated with a magazine may make you a good all around judge of how good a new vehicle performs in comparison to members of its class, but it may not necessary make you a super drag race car driver. I don't know the man that posted those slip. He claims to have 19 years of experience in the drag scene. He could be lying for all I know. But he sounds legit. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. On this board and many others you always get the “hey where’s the slip to prove it” guy. Well this one has a slip attached to it. Now it’s “there’s some weird information coming from EVO owners”. Alas for some people, unless they are actually present at the time, it is not true. As with anything you read out here in the ether, it must be taken with a grain of salt.
