MSRP on 04' Sti
Just a little question as of yet the ture MSRP has not been set on the Year 2004 Model Sti?
So whos to says that MSRP is not going to be: $38,000.00 to $40,000.00 for a Sti just a thought. And to everyone that has a $500.00 deposit down will you still be willing to pay $40,000.00 for a Sti? Don't get me wrong I love my wrx and I will do anything to get a Sti but for $40,000.00 you can get a Lexus or BMW.

No way $40,000. That would make the car an unqualified failure. My guess is right around $30K. Wait a few months, and you'll get one at invoice....

i spooke to a dealer and he said it was going to be $36,000 with a $3000 markup, which brings the grand total up to 39000. Im a big fan of the sti but 40k for a subaru is definetly stretching it!

$36,000 would have me looking at the Evo again.

Sad really.
It's really sad that some of you guys called me a noob.
I was just asking a "What If" question, and just wanted some of the forums members to give there thoughts on the matter. Look at what happen when the EVO VIII came out MSRP was $28,500.00 and they marked it up to $45,000.00 with the STi being a better car it should have a higher mark up. Only time will time. |

evo's are already selling under MSRP nearly everywhere...and are still sitting on lots. the answer to your question is...the more the price is over $30k, the more of them will be sitting on lots. |

I like how you morons talk with so much authority, like you think you work for Subaru or something. I'm guessing most of you are teenagers in base model WRXs, or still driving your parents' car.
I think Dr. Nitrous has a valid question. If the price of the STi gets anywhere over $35K, I'm seriously considering getting an S4 or M3 instead. Not exactly in the same class pricewise, the 2004 S4 is $45K and the M3 I'd want is $51K, but worth the extra money versus an over-priced Subaru. If they can sell the STi for around $32K, then I'd buy one. |

It's a stupid question. SOA has already said low 30's. If you are dumb enough to pay a huge markup at some sleezy dealer then that's your problem.

How is it a stupid question? Dealers might mark it up, or production costs might force SOA to raise the MSRP, or maybe inflation will increase by 20% by August 2003. The question is, who is willing to buy an STi for around $40K, is it worth that price? That's a completely valid question.

Well I think he's been called a noob because it would take less then 1 min. getting friendly with the search function of this site to know that most people here (claim that they) will not pay over MSRP and that Subaru has stated the price would be in the low $30's.
Posting "what if" questions like this only encourage speculation based on speculation. How is that a valid question? I've got a valid question! Would would you do if the sky turned green tomorrow? |

Next, if Subaru decided, after the Evo was announced and delivered under 29k, to make the STi more than 32k-ish, then they definitely won't have to artificially limit how many they build . If inflation increases, Subaru will take the hit, as will all of the car makers. same with changes in $ vs yen, before you ask. There are a small number of STi enthusiasts that would pay 60k for the car, and a somewhat larger percentage that would pay 40k for the car. Even at 30k, over 90 percent of the American public that can afford that much for a car would rather have a 350Z, G35, 325i, TL-s, Maxima, RX-8, S2000, etc., than a supercar that shares it's interior with a 20k RS. of that remaining percentage that appreciate the STi, most would rather have a 29k Evo than a 40k STi, even if the STi significantly outperforms the Evo. A lot of the people who are drooling over this car will be picking one up in 4 years, used, unfortunately. |

I spoke to a Subaru rep and he says that Subaru wants to destroy Evos sales and there is a chance that the STi will be less then then EVO.......but we'll see about that one....
