My first attempt at creating a poll - be kind to me if I blow it.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the STi wing is a necessity on the STi.

Yes you are wrong depending on exactly what you are talking about.

Does the dealer offer delete wing option?
Does the standard wrx trunk fit? (with a wing)
Does the standard wrx trunk fit? (without a wing)
Can you remove the wing and fill the holes?
Will the car become unstable without the wing because of some aero changes made to the new model?
Will the car spontaniously combust if you come within 6 inches of the wing?

From the results so far it looks like the SOA Marketeers knew what they were doing with 71% voting for the Big Wing.

I hate any wings uless they are functional. In case of a sedan a big wing is the only way to have any downforce generated. A standard WRX wing is just for show like most of small wings in sedans.
So my vote is - give me a big wing!

I'd love to see the votes reach at least 100 (at 77 as I write this). While lurking on this forum for months I always wondered what "bump" was. Now I know. Thanks to all of you who have voted!

Big Wing. The old Impreza RS has a functional wing, believe it or not. It has no downforce but it does prevent lift. It was put through the wind tunnel in Germany and turned out to be true.

Im hoping the mounting holes are the same as on the regular low profile wing so i can interchange.

I personally don't care for the big wing, or the gold wheels, honestly. I'm curious if the standard WRX deck lid will fit, because I'm half tempted to take the big wing off. I'm also probably going to take the gold wheels off as well, and put something a little less "in your face" on it. I realize that the wing is functional, but would choose form over function in that situation. I'm not going to drive 150 mph.

Who knows, maybe some poor hapless soul will mistake my STi for a standard WRX that's had the STI markings & body kit put on it. LOL

I'll certainly keep the STi parts... but I'd prefer something a little more subtle looking.

I can't believe people are now complaining about gold wheels or the tall spoiler. It's an STi. It has STi parts; deal with it. If you can afford the thing, you can afford to put whatever wheels or spoiler you want on there. I personally hope you complainers get passed up and can't get the car. I don't think you deserve it. Go buy an RS or the WRX or a honda or something.

Wow, really.. people don't deserve the car just because they don't have a penchant for big wings or gold wheels? Harsh.

Don't you think that's a bit extreme?

What's wrong with wanting something a little less garish?

That's right. They don't deserve it. It's a very harsh and very extreme car. I made 3 suggestions of something a little less "garish." The STi is not for everyone. Some people just can't hack it. Some people are going to crash it their first week owning it. I hope they don't but they will.

IMO the WRX STi has the no.1 best looking OEM wing Subaru has offered. No. 2 best is on the 99-01 RS.

I don't think having a WRC-style wing indentifies me as a street punk ricer because I know I am not a street punk ricer.
I don't care if people say "oh, he has that wing on his car because he has a small penis"
I know I can choke them with my penis if I want to.
It's called being SECURE in yourself.

not in the UK. That's what makes it the "Prodrive" STi.

Default Choices choices

Well so far it looks like about 40% of us would rather have either a smaller wing or no wing. Looks like a wing delete option would be a good idea for FHI / SOA.

I personally have no interest in killing low flying birds with that thing, and would be pefectly happy to give up .001 seconds per lap to avoid having to worry about some goof ball trying to pop it off my trunk lid with a crow bar.

the WRX wing does produce down force how much subaru won't say and at what speed they won't say on that either. At least they didn't.

I'd be interested to find out these numbers for the STi wing. Does anyone know?

Hard to believe it's any significant number. Check here:

I agree...but none the less it does. I did notice that one day I had morning dew on the the car and when I got to work the center part of the wing was the only section to get airflow over it as there wasn't dew there. the outer portions from the trunk attachment pt/strut to the outside was untouched (still had undisturbed dew on it). I've never seen the STi wing in person, is it adjustable? And I remember that if you bought the prodrive uk300 wing, prodrive wanted you to buy the front airdam as well because it would cause the car to be "unstable" at high speeds. Was this just a marketing ploy to make you spend more money?I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong.
