Default Do you want an Sti wagon in MY05?

Well? Do ya? Let the big boys hear the wagon roar! STi wagon would be the perfect "bridge" between Legacies and Foresters and the STi Sedan.

Waiting patiently...

Sorry guys I am the one with the 'Yes, it would be cool vote.' But I absolutely agree it should not be watered down one bit as the have done with (I believe) nearly every STi Wagon in the past, at least in one area or another. The Wagon should also get the nice flaired fenders to house the BBS wheels (something the '01/'02 STi Wagon didn't do and settled for the pretty good STi ones and 17x7" wheels with 215/45 rubber instead of the 17x7.5"s with 225/45 rubber. Give it you all STi! America is ready, bring it on!

As to my no post, I am waiting for my '05 (or as soon as I can afford one since I am currenyly a college student) Legacy GT (turbo) or an STi-Edition when I graduate. Either way, go 2.5T!!!!!!!!

I thought that the only STi wagon to be diluted was the last one. Prior to that, there were only a few years where a wagon was even offered. Maybe 1996-2000? Still, I'd take a diluted wagon. The price would obviously have to be less for the lack of equipment. I would still buy it if it were watered down like the last STi wagon.

Abso-friggin-lutely. Lack of a wagon is the only thing keeping me from putting my house plans on hold right now.

Although it may be 2005 (calendar year) before I can afford to upgrade my WRX.

If the only dilution is a narrower track, I could live with that easily.
If they left out the fancy interior, I could live with that, too.

I'd like to see the vast bulk of the performance bits make it through, though.

Yes! The wagon has been proved functional in the states, and think how great would it be to add a 2.5-T to it.

But one thing I want with it: Flares!

Hmmm, lemme see.....a wagon with a 2.5 liter turbo engine, DCCD, front and rear LSD, a six speed tranny, an STi interior WITH fold down rear seats....where do I sign up??

Yeah, I'd get in line for a wagon. I could live without the fender flares. But the rest of it HAS to stay.

To put it in perspective, the European manufacturers feel there is a market for a high-performance wagon. Look at the S4 Avant or the V70 R AWD.

c'mon SOA, get on the ball, make sure the Japanese can answer...

Subaru would be wise not to ignore the large wagon contingent present. After all, some people need a little praticality in their supercar.
The only thing I'd say they wouldn't be able to do would be the fender "blisters". That would require some new body panels, at least in the rear. That is not something a manufacturer wants to do for a lower production run vehicle I wager. But by all means, keep the nice interior as well as the great mechanicals. Maybe some nice UK OE WRX wheels would suit the exclusive STi Sport Wagon nicely.

How about this picture Frederf posted as a sample?

With performance wagons being the new big thing, maybe there is a chance. Small, but still a chance.

Default I'm in

I'd put a deposit on one today. I had a WRX wagon pre-ordered when they were introduced. I got a chance to test drive the demo wagon before I signed. Glad I did, I backed out of the deal. The car just didn't have enough get-up-and-go for me, it felt like too much was being lost through the AWD. I'm sure I'd be satisfied with the additional HP and torque the STI offers. The wagons rock for interior space. They have lots of head room (hard to find when your 6'2") and better seating stats this side of a Passat. And yes I have a dog too.

I went to

http://impreza.subaru.com/microsites/impreza/main.jsp

and clicked on "contact us" to ask for an Sti wagon. Here's the reponse:

Thank you for your e-mail with a suggestion to offer the WRX STi in a Wagon version. We appreciate that you took the time to give us your comments. We will forward them to our Product Planning Department for their future consideration.

In the past, input from our owners has been helpful in initiating changes to our newer models. We hope to continually improve our products and appreciate your recommendations.

Thanks again for your time and comments.

It would be cool. Rather cool. The sedan is too small for me. Until some data is out on the STI's mechanical relibaility, I can't say that i would buy one.

I would be all over an STI wagon, that would be the only way I would own an STI. So it is either an STI wagon direct from SOA or wait till some morron with an STI sedans wrecks it and I will scoop up the motor, tranny etc and do a nice little swap. Now that would be a sleeper.

I'd be all over it, but what I would really like to see is the STi drive train and suspension in a Legacy GT wagon

2 options that I'd consider:

STi impreza wrx wagon w/ special styling
(special styling means: fender flares, wide body kit stock, or just something to make it look a touch meaner)

or

an STi tuned legacy wagon
(can you say an s401 in wagon form with the 2.5l turbo?)

i'd settle for either one. wagons have some of the best of all worlds...

albeit, with the fold down seats, they should come with a quick release factory rear strut tower bar, so the car can maintain it's rigidity, yet it's easy to remove quickly (and most aftermarket ones aren't too difficult to get out quickly) so you can still get all that storage space with the seats down.

How did you steal my idea

I think you have to do a little work to make the STI sedan tranny work with the wagon.

I am sure it would take a little work but it would be worth it. I have been thinking about moving to a 2.5l if my current motor ever goes caput, well now that STI is coming out I think that it would be even easier. Though my only concern would be wiring up the DCCD and AVCs, though since I would probably just use the STI ECU at first every thing would be there.

I was wondering, even though the wagon is narrower I wonder if the body mounts are the same. If so I could go with a little shell swap using the chassis of some rolled STI. I am sure I would have to roll the fenders out, maybe even put some sedan front fenders and rear corner panels on. I am sure it would be expensive and a PITA but it would ROCK. For now I can only dream.

radrex: That would be a good start for me too.
Slightly flared fenders, slightly lower, nice "family car" look and killer acceleration/brakes/handling and top speed.

Geez, gotta like it.
Redleader and roybfr:
Why would the trans fit any different?
The same trans is used in the Legacy GT sedan and wagon and also the Impreza 2.5RS. So I don't follow you at all on this one.

I just meant that it would take some work to get it in there, ie time and muscle wise. I am not worried about the 6 fitting as it has been done, at least by a few sedan owners.
