DCCD: How close to a pure RWD car?
Can someone comment on how close a 35:65 split is to a RWD car? I've seen a 22B drift like crazy so I think that the new STi will have no problem, but would like some first hand experience. My 8 month old S2000 may just be up for sale . . .

Its not that simple
First off, I have no experience in an STi. But that said, I've driven a 911 turbo, a few different audi's (own an S4) and drove a BMW 330Xi (which has something close to that torque split)... no AWD car I drove drove like a RWD car. Even the 911 Turbo had more understeer than over unless you really poked the bunny.
AWD drifting, even at that kind of torque split, is very special in the realm of handling. Its unique and in my opinion what we've learned from the release of the STi stats shows that Subaru might have hit this on the mark perfectly. We'll have enough power to control direction with the throttle but enough available understeer to get out of hamfisted ass-driving with ease. I think that if getting all Initial-D in your STi is all you want, you'll get it in spades (with enough rubber that is). But for track driving, according to apex japan, this car may have one of the best ballance acts on the planet. I am very excited about this car. -Tom |

From my experience with the JDM 2.0 with DCCD-A, it was more tail happy and throttle-steerable than a 350Z or the pumped up Miata I drove to the track test.
Getting the DCCD is possibly more important than the 2.5-litre turbo... Cheers, Paul Hansen |

That sounds yummy! I'm more interested in a car that offers up other options than just understeer, and yes I will drift that beast when the mood strikes.
I'll probably try to get one in the fall. This car is beyond my expectations. I am damn impressed. |

But it doesn't turn it into a RWD car.
