Subaru's way of saying, hey, you ain't modding this one.

It's a gearless solution. Meaning, right there it's rated at a certain amount of torque conversion.

Yeah, AND?????

ANNNNNND, that means if it's rated for 260lb's, than that's all it's handeling boys and girls.. And if you exceed that, my guess you won't AWD for too long.

If it was mechanical, which someone already made the excellent point, parts could be swapped out, beefed up as needed.

I just think alot of people are gonna get taken, and at over 32K MSRP?

Yeah, ok.

I'll take my 2.5l RS and do the same thing.

for 15K less.

Cheers

Will
LOL Have fun understeering in your 2.5rs! Ever heard of AP? Thay make the suretrac diffs and they are a really nice feature of the STi model and have been for years.

Its a front diff n00b. Doesnt have anything to do with AWD. Newsflash- your front diff is open, and so is the WRX.

If it is ~$32,995, then it will be worth it. While you can get a stage 2 from Vishnu for $5800 and have a few more horsepower for a few grand less, you won't have a transmission that can handle much more. The drivetrain alone is making me consider looking at this as an upgrade.

The million dollar question is: Will they only bring over only 4000-5000 units? We heard this all before with the MY02 WRX . They won't say no to the all mighty dollar, nor should they.

The difference here is that the gas mileage the STi gets will play havok with Subaru's CAFE ratings. They won't be bringing many more than 5k over.

And that'll prolly be sufficent for demand anyway. Look at all the people here posting now that they're gonna buy a WRX and mod it past STi performance levels.

Are you guys all forgetting many things? mocking the price, well youre also getting a WARRANTIED 6-speed gearbox, WARRANTIED driver changable center diff, plus all that beautiful bodywork, HID halogens, and that AMAZING STI WING (sorry for caps but i have always loved that wing to death, trying to get it for my 2.5rs). seriously, plus 300hp that will not be gone forever if there are probs since you can get it fixed under warranty. i think its a great car...LOOK at the interior! You may not care about looks so much because youre so hardcore tuners, but come on!! bottom line, THE CAR IS A WORK OF ART!!!!

well i could go ahead and do an STi drivetrain swap in my 93L, w/ STi version 6 suspension, etc, etc, and it would cost me about $25,000, so why the hell would i want a WRX, much less an STi? simple. warrenty and a reliable car. believe it or not, tuning your car makes it less reliable. if you are a hardcore tuner, hell yes, go with the 93 L w/ sti swap, or stage 3 wrx, but if you want a fast ass car right out of the box w/ a 6 speed and warrenty, the STi is your friend

Sure, you can spend $5k-$6k in mods to get a WRX to be as powerful (or more) as one of these new STi's... problem is, to use it, you'll break your clutch, transmission and engine internals.

Try a drag race start in a 350HP WRX and see what happens.

People pay $12,000 to get these beefy bits as a starting point for mods... When you factor in that cost, the results are different.

I think SOA should drop all the things they can on the car like the stereo, floormats and stuff like that. Be nice if they would even get us a set of steely winter wheels and let us pick out the wheels we like through the aftermarket.
Ok, i'll come off the crack pipe now. Personally i think anything over 30k is too much. Yes, the extras are very nice but you can get all of those thing in the future as they come available through importers.
I might be convinced its worth more if i could drop in a boost controller and have 350 hp. I mean it's no audi or bimmer. The guy with a 13 year old 300zx will still get more looks from the girlies.

gotta love the haters.
If you don't want it don't buy it.
The energy spent on hating stuff is insane.. Try posting about stuff you feel positive about, who cares if you hate it. The guys who like it and want to buy it don't need you hateful , spiteful words because your Mom won't buy it for you. Grow up go back to OT or whereever and start a hate post were you can drown in negativism and self-loathing.

I'm just going to make sure if I see an STi behind me I get out of his way fast enough. These cars will make 500 HP no problem with moderate mods, even higher if you pushed it to the ragged razor edge! I'm going out on a limb and guess we'll see a sub 10 second STi inside of 6 months of it's release.

Step 1 - Move to Florida 2 years before you apply to college
Step 2 - Take the ACT and score at least a 28 or take the SAT and get at least a 1270. Keep your unweighted GPA over 3.75
Step 3 - Apply to one of the many state universities in FL (UF, FSU, UCF, UNF, USF, blah)
Step 4 - Get in.
Step 5 - Give your counselor your new address so the Bright Futures Academic Scholarship can send you your 100% scholarship check (with 300 bucks per semester for textbooks!)
Step 6 - Piss infront of your most hated high school teacher's room.
Step 7 - Go to your favorite FL Subie dealer (Bob Dance Subie in central FL) and pick up your STi.
Step 8 - Go out and 0wn the 2.5RS owners that feel that their car is better.

I as well have a really bad feeling I won't be able to afford this car. I budgeted for no more than $31,995.95. Even that is pushing it, but doable. There's no way this car will be that price. That's a real f'n shame. The regular WRX is so 'pale' in comparison. Especially with no major improvements.
If I could get my dealership close to invoice it may still happen. They strictly said 'MSRP only' though.

So for $28K I could have a new modded WRX that is 0-60 in 4.2 seconds and do Qrtr miles in the 12 second range.

Based on this http://www.vishnutuning.com/stage.htm why would I go with an STI? Pay more for less?

And, I just talked to Vishnu, and they're going to debut stage 3 in about a month. No word on cost yet, but it will feature 500HP, use the stock tranny have 0-60 times in UNDER 4 seconds and quarter miles in the 11 second range.

To heck with the STi.
And last about 2 miles before blowing up.!!

You guys completely miss out on the feel of a factory modded car. It's not all about peak numbers. You'd spend far more than what you think to get the whole STi deal. You're forgetting about brakes, suspension, interior bits, aerodynamics, transmission, diffs, etc, etc, etc. A car built as a SYSTEM will always feel better and ultimately out perform a car with just a few bolt ons from an aftermarket company that has "only" spent $10,000s to $100,000s on R&D....

When SOA introduced WRX in US, they were planning to sell 7-8000 cars a year, but at the end of the year they sold almost 14000.
So I hope it will be the same story with STI. And with resent economy when many automanufacturers selling less and less cars what car manufacturers don't want to sell more cars. And Subaru as a small company (comparably to Honda, Nissan, etc) planning to expand its presence in US.
