Are there any beaches in Hilton Head I can drive my car on?
I wanted to try and get some good beach shots this weekend while I am in Hilton Head...I can't seem to find anything online. Just wondering if any of you peps that live down there know of a good spot for some photo's??
Oh and I am not wanting to go tear it up, my car is way too low for that! I just wanted a nice beach shot for the Subie Calendar next year! Thanks! Jeremy

I highly doubt that you can LEGALLY drive onto a beach on Hilton Head Island (though you never know). They are very strict with just about any rule on Hilton Head. I do know that there are a few that you could get your car onto because they patrol the beach with both 4-wheelers and SUV's.

Your best bet is to go out super early, like when the sun is rising to try to snap pics. I am sure patrols are few and far between that early in the morning.

yeah, my experience would say "NO" to driving on a beach at Hilton Head Island... Might try Charleston though, I'm not sure what they do up there... The only Beach I have been to that you can drive on is up at Virginia Beach, and that was a good 6 years ago, so that could have changed...

It used to be permitted way up on the north end for fishing etc. many years ago when it was undeveloped, but I assume there are probably homes/condos there now. They are pretty pro-environment there. The sea turtles are protected and vehicles squash the nests, but in some areas it is seasonal. I doubt anything other than official vehicles would be permitted.
I have heard of some isolated vacation rental houses extremely far north on the NC coast near the VA line that were only accessable with a 4x4 vehicle. Maybe someone up that way can chime in if they know about it. A lot of people drive out to go surf fishing on the outerbanks and NC coast, but if you're thinking about testing your rally cross skills you probably would not be well received in either place. (Also, sea salt very, very bad for vehicle ) |
