Default HKS GT3037 Single Turbo

Anyone try this here or abroad? From my understanding, the 3037 is a great top-end turbo for 2.0 liter engines capable of around 400-500HP at the wheels, depending on which 3037 you get. I've heard lots of success with SR20's in Japan with this turbo.

Anyone?

Yes it's a beautiful turbo. Very expensive though. I believe the HKS kit uses a 2835, but the 3037 should be a sweet race turbo. I wonder how much power the stock bottom end can handle. Obviously 400 HP is no problem.

Default HKS Kit?

HKS has a turbo kit for the EJ20 US-Spec WRX? Wow didn't know that... (Scooby semi-newbie here).

I haven't seen the turbo so I'm not sure which exhaust flange it uses, but since it's based on the Garrett GT series I would assume they have Garrett flanges.

I was thinking about headers + HKS GT + turbo back exhaust. That'd be awesome!

Default HKS GT3037S

Yes indeed it is a beautiful turbo. I have one sitting here .. it's not a bolt on item but you can get custom turbo adapters to make install less of a pain but the end results coupled with an external wastegate makes for a very nice setup .. the HKS GT3037S comes in two flavours, 450hp (0.87 A/R, 12 cm²) and 470hp (1.01 A/R 14 cm²).

will HKS ever come out with anything for the USDM WRX? All I've seen is the hyper carbon exhaust?? Within a year hopefully they'll have a 2835 kit with up-pipe available. Also I'd like a turbo back exhaust from HKS to fit on that turbo.

sooo.... what's the good word?

HKS USA has many prototype units for the US-WRX including

Cat back exhaust (already available to public)
Downpipe (no cats)
Front mounted intercooler
HKS Turbo kit (2835)
HKS BOV kit
HKS powerflow intake

These units will start to become available over the next couple of months with the downpipe and the intake coming first

I have heard that they will also be working on an upgraded top mount intercooler

EDIT: Some of the parts mentioned Im assuming are available through Jan Shim from Japan. BTW, having the HKS turbo kit on my supra I can assure you that the HKS turbo kit w/garrett turbo will be of the highest quality.

I don't know about you guys, but if your going through the trouble of custom fabricating a larger turbo in your car, there is huge amount of choices for $400-600. You can easily pick up a TE-44 from a Grand National board for $500 and this will flow 400-500 HP and last for years assuming minimum maintence.

Only turbos in MY WORLD that cost more than $1000 support 800+ rwhp ...

Cool this just means that more manufacturers (Trust, possibly Apexi) will come out with products for the WRX. I've always thought Trust made great turbo kits because a lot of times they include exhaust manifolds, external wastegates, and all necessary piping.

They have one now. It's a TD06 20G with unspecified mods. Most DSMers think the Greddy/Trust 20G flows alot less than some of the 20G hybrids.

Apexi also has two turbos out for the WRX. They are not on their website. One is like 900, the other is 1900. I was told the higher end one does not really compete with the PE1820, with the PE being superior.

As far as turbos being available, yes, there are lots of cheap turbos available. I also believe that if you look across the web and call turbo manufacturers, you will _not_ be able to get a Garrett GT-series ball-bearing turbo for 500 bucks. Unless that's what you pay the guy to steal it. They are _not_ common, they are not OEM, and they use the latest aerodynamics, etc. Hence the cost.

Oh, to be spoiled by 3+ liters of easy cheesy turbo spooling displacement
