that is actually kind of interesting, depending on how they work it out.
with a 25mb signal, they could easily do that without impacting your service if they use a completely different set of docsis channels. IIRC they only use 4 now even for the higher level packages and most newish modems support 8 channels. |

My bill to is now up to $217 / mo
All i have is internet / DVR / HD ... it was around $100 when I started. Every couple months they jack it up $10 or so with no notice. It's about time I canceled. Cable should not be more than my electric + gas bill combined ... ridiculous. |

That's what I hated about comcrap in DC. Every month my bill would go up by a buck or two. No notice, nothing. They'd pass it off as tax increases. Bull ****. Hate comcast. |

Yeah that's still pretty high. They're fleecing us pretty good here.
I think what they're getting me with is the "it's cheaper if you get the phone service" ... but add up all the taxes and "modem rental" nonsense and it's maybe like $1 cheaper, and the trick is they sell the phone # to a bunch of telemarketers and make way more money off of you that way. Dirtbags. I'm getting my bill and looking at some other options here. Will be calling shortly. Thanks for the motiviation OT. |

We just switched to internet and home security. We're on a promo for $70 for the first six months, then it goes to $85 after that. I suppose we will see how long that lasts, last time we had them we were paying almost $80 a month just for internet. Once our DirecTV contract is up, I think we're just going to drop TV service all together and just run internet and stream everything.
As for the article posted, it seems like it would be easy to do this, considering that Comcast provided a router with our install, which is used for the home security connectivity. So, if the neighborhood wifi is 25mb, does that mean I could subscribe to their slowest internet package and then just hop on the local wifi network and get a higher speed? |

I have comcast/x, I usually go up to the local location, flirt with the counter girls and get some great promotions. In general, they are meh.
How is Fios compared to comcast in terms of price? |

We're in the middle of a Comcast nightmare right now. We decided to switch to Comcast because AT&T internet wasn't working at >1mbps download speed, and Directv was fine but we wanted an all-in-one service. We decided to get Xfinity service. Internet was installed and works great, ~40mbps download speed. Home phone still isn't working after 2 weeks. Cable works fine, but the DVR won't record any shows, which is unacceptable for certain family members who like to fill up the DVR with HGTV shows.
We did an online chat with a Comcast "service rep" last night. The employee was unforgivably stupid. What does turning off our television have to do with the DVR unit? Nothing, because they are only connected by a VGA cable! Comcast must put all the college dropout monkeys on the online chat. After 2 hours of wasting our time turning devices on and off, all to no effect, we told Comcast that we wouldn't have to pay for service this month, so hopefully a Comcast truck will show up at our house today and attempt to get their **** together. Jimmies are rustled. |

when you have the tech come in, make sure he takes his MUDDY BOOTS off on the porch and does not TRACK MUD all through your house
and if he re-arranges your furniture, make sure he puts it back And above all, do not let him near any of your computers, they'll install so much bloatware on it, set your home page to 4x comcast tabs and it embeds itself in the registry so it keeps coming back. (this is what happened to my mother) |

25/15 + Extreme HD package = $99, plus $15 for DVR. Apparently I can upgrade to 50/25 for $10 too. Current bill with taxes and such is ~$136.

Ok ok... by basic I meant the 70+ channels of absolute ****. As for HD.... not really. Like a couple channels but it doesn't look like real HD to me.

Your rate is high now because you are off contract and basically month-to-month. I just did it and got a better package (Showtime and Skinamax + free HD DVR) for $50 less than I was paying before. |
