![]() we are down to basic until I put up the antenna. We got a good load of snow before I could get up on the roof though. so it may wait until spring.

![]() Buy channelmaster antenna, post, rotor, controller (maybe $250 total if nothing on sale).
Put on chimney and run wires into house. Bring in HD for free. We got cable (verizon fios) for the first time about 3 years ago because the wife really wanted it (aka, the kids nagging got to her). For our $135/month, we get unlimited phone (required), internet and somethingorother TV. Non-HD....2 cable boxes. Personally, I'd rather go back to over the air. We still have it hooked up and can switch over directly through our remote. HD and far clearer than the fios. We pull in 52 over the air channels. No speed. No history. Who cares.... Maybe I'll discuss with the wife sometime soon.........I can't take much more 24 hour a day SpongeBob. I miss my $39/month internet/phone-only bills. |

![]() I'm about to drop cable as well. Just need to figure out internet service. We have comcast now. I think the only other service in my area is Qwest which is what I had for internet when I still had Dish Network.
Lot's of stuff on cable that I like, but I always notice if I'm home alone, I don't even bother turning the tv on. |

![]() Verizon Fios. TV and internet = $100
No plans to get rid, splitting with one roomate. If I got rid of the TV only, then internet would be something like $55 or $60. I'll deal with the small price difference for sports. |

![]() I guess they must think people around here don't know any better. TW's high speed "Turbo" internet (~$70/month) is only 10 Mb/512Kb. Since there is no real competition for them in our area, we have to bend over and take it. Forgoing cable tv was not a hard choice with internet rates like that.

![]() I just got a notice this morning that Frontier Communications is raising their rates for FiOS by roughly 46%. I think I'm going to look into OTA as well.

As long as you have access to local news or something equivalent you should be okay. Plus, I find now that we're doing a lot more as a family, rather than sitting in our rooms watching individual programs. I miss watching hockey though. I get a couple games a week, and am lucky if one of them is the local team. No one comes to my house on game night. ![]() |

![]() dropped cable over a year ago.
Comcast internet + basic cable = same price as internet alone. So I got locals through cable too, just in case. My htpc takes care of the rest. No need to cable box fees. Bought my own cable modem box too, so no need for modem fees either. Got netflix for the movies, and the GF house for watching football or anything on cabletv ![]() |

![]() We get 10% of the netflix choices you have in the US, yet there always seems to be something worth watching. If I had the full US selection, I'd be in movie heaven.
PS: The wife still gets her "intervention" on netflix. Too bad she can't work the xbox. ![]() |

![]() This thread is just what I needed for that final motivation. I just called Comcast and cancelled everything but my internet. I did keep basic analog cable for $8 a month because it knocked $15/month off my internet access. I went from $180/mo rape to $54/mo. Just found out I can expense $45/mo for internet at my job so effectively I'm at $9/month now and my two kids will each have a nice $1000/year added to their 529 college savings accounts FTMFW.
Here's to less brain rot in my life. Hopefully one day content will be a-la-carte. I'm playing my role as a member of the market forces voting with my dollars. ![]() |

![]() Not bad for 5 minutes worth of thinking.
Have they been feeding you fresh bananas lately? Your color is really coming back nicely, along with your spring coat. I wish I had a custom title, but "Matt a" hates me, so probably not much chance of that. ![]() |
