Default I scored the deal of the Century on a "Thumper" (Gun pics inside)

I ran into a good friend of mine on Saturday after a range session and ended up going to lunch with him. He bought a Bushmaster .450 last year and since then has taken it out 3 times, less than 100 rounds total through the gun. He had decided that he didn't want it anymore as he just hasn't used it enough to be worthwhile to him. He'd talked to the local shop to see what they'd give him for the rifle, Leupold scope and 3 boxes of Hornady ammo. He was seriously considering their offer, so I told him I'd give him $25 more than the shop offered if he'd sell it to me and he accepted.

Pics:

For the rifle, case, 3 boxes of ammo (retail ~30ish per) and scope I paid $500.

I don't really have a need for a rifle that'll take down bears, but at that price I couldn't pass it up. Not to mention that it's built on a .223 lower so I can swap uppers and shoot .223 or 6.8/6.5.

Yeah, I know. I tried to talk him into trying to sell it on consignment or at least checking some other shops, but he was set on getting rid of it that day. I figured I'd be dumb not to pick that up at that price.

A .50 Beowulf upper will work on that too? Hmmm...

Good god. Lucky son of a bitch, especially in this market.

I was thrilled to buy a Mossberg 500 for $150 on Saturday.

It wouldn't be fun to get hit by.

Muzzle velocity on the 250gr is around 2200 ft/sec with around 2700 ft/lbs of energy. At 100 yards it's around 1850fps and 1880 ft/lbs, 200 yards it's down to 1525fps and 1300 ft/lbs, and at 300 yards it's still doing 1275 fps and ~900 ft/lbs of energy. By the time you've hit 300 yards the bullet has already dropped about 25 inches, but anything inside of that doesn't stand much of a chance. Hornady is the only one making bullets for it right now and they're all polymer tipped SST rounds.

I'll own one of those someday, I love the ammo selection for them even if it does cost an arm and a leg to shoot them
