Default Ran smoke test for dreaded p0457.

I have a 2005 STI , I’ve been dealing with the P0457 Loose fuel cap code every tank of gas now , I’ve tested EVERYTHING , all evap lines are good to go , when we put the smoke machine on the evap line going to the rear of the car it basically was open pressure so there is a leak of some sort and yet there’s no smoke coming from anywhere , they suggested the charcoal canister but I’ve had it off and tested it by sucking through it and it holds pressure if I cover the other end , I’ve tested the rear vent valve solenoid and it operates with 12v to it so I’m pretty stumped at this point . Is the rear vent valve supposed to be closed or open with no power to it , I’ve also tested the solenoid in the front that opens to the manifold and it also operates fine . And yet every time I hit half tank on the highway it throws the code , any suggestions would be great , thanks

Does it smell like raw fuel in your car? If it does i would check the cover to your gas tank under the rear seats. Might have a leak there and its reading as you losing pressure in the gas tank. I would also change out the fuel cap for a new one. Never had one go bad on me but have seen others having to replace them. When you fuel up goes the gas station gun shut off at 1/2 a tank or does it fill it up full with no problem?

I’ve Replaced the fuel cap just in case with an oem Subaru cap just to rule that out in the beginning , it fuels up fine without shutting off, haven’t noticed anything there , I feel like occasionally I can smell a little Fuel but can’t tell if it’s raw Fuel or just exhaust w/o a catalytic converter Coming into the cab

Hi Guys. Have a 05 Sti with the same P0457 issue. Having it looked at by a local Subaru dealer (who is being particularly thorough). Its currently ended up as "we need to drop the fuel tank to replace these rollover valves" or "replace the ECU". Both will be super expensive. wanted to see what came of this. I'll explore all the other P0457 threads to see if anybody else has had any luck. This sucks because this CEL is preventing me from getting the car smog checked.

Check that the purge control solenoid valves are connected and working properly. These items are on the front of the intake manifold and have a buncha rubber hoses connecting them. If a hose is disconnected, it will throw this code. I would have expected that to be the first place the dealer would have checked since it's the easiest.

I think they checked that already and found nothing but i'll see if they can double check that. They dropped the fuel tanks and found nothing.

Ya. When i get the car back, my last resort is to just use my OBD tool to delete the CEL and cross my fingers.

BTW, these evap code errors started 5 years ago when the charcoal canister literally spewed all of these pellets all over the evap system. My dad and I went thru the entire system getting pellets out of the lines and they went all the way into the tubes in the engine bay. I had them look for that again thinking maybe some of those pellets are still in there, but i know we disconnected everything connected to that cannister and blew out all of the pellets.

Oh well...
