Personally I really enjoy week-by-week episodic viewing for the reasons you stated. And I think it's a smart move by streaming services to implement it if they have faith that the show will retain viewers week to week. Disney+ got you hooked with Obi Wan Kenobi until the very end when you decided you had enough and cancelled your subscription. Not that I'd cancel my HBO Max subscription, but my time is precious to me and sometimes I wait for feedback and input from viewers I respect before diving into a season. Typically I appreciate the well-articulated comments that OT provides and if enough people express that they're really enjoying a season then I'll choose to set aside spare time to watch it. Season 3 of West World didn't wow me, so I wasn't hotly anticipating Season 4. Season 3 of Stranger Things didn't wow me, so I wasn't hotly anticipating Season 4, although everyone I've talked to on here and IRL has said that it's actually really good. So now I'm waiting for the final half of S4 of Stranger Things before I invest my time. I let a few episodes of Marre of Easttown settle in before I decided to catch up, based on the hype. And I did the exact same thing with Barry S3, even though I was one of the original hype beasts for Barry. Also Peacemaker was hyped from the first episode and I'm glad I watched that week to week. Everyone has differing circumstances and it's nice to have the flexibility to view things. If I don't want certain story beats spoiled for me, then I'll be more dedicated to episodes (Marvel and Star Wars, plus some murder mysteries here and there, including Ozark). Otherwise it's just mindless entertainment that we're allowed to enjoy at our own leisure.

Yeah, TV has changed drastically from one episode being mostly independent of the others. I love being able to binge over the course of a weekend or a few days.

That's the great thing about it. If you want to binge then go ahead. If you want to wait and watch weekly then go ahead. Sure it's more problematic if you choose to wait and then everyone else is talking about it but that's just the way it is. You have to avoid social media and spoilers if you choose to watch weekly.

Oh yeah totally agree. Even when all episodes are available, I usually can only watch 2-3 eps a day before I have to stop anyways. I'm good with avoiding spoilers until I watch as well.

Yep. If a series drops all at once, it's 3-4 sittings to catch the whole thing and I'm cool with that. I'm also cool with it trickling out on a set day for a month and a half or longer.
I have more important things to worry about than streaming vs traditional TV rituals. |

Some series are fine to binge, and for others part of the appeal is the weekly internet discussion and speculation for next weeks episode. In general, I feel like you become more invested in a show and it's characters when it drops new episodes on a weekly basis.
Binging is like having a one night stand as opposed to being in a relationship. |

*shrug* I also don't don't enjoy discussing a book chapter to chapter. I'd rather read it front to back before sharing an informed opinion. To each their own. I make no judgement towards others who do not share my preference for consuming entertainment media.

I'm pissed because I switched from the Dodgers/Braves game to watch S3 that was playing on HBO because I forgot how everything shook out. Wound up missing a helluva game.

For one I wasn't suggesting all the episodes drop at once. A lot times shows with a new season will often have that slower setup first episode and then usually ep2 or ep3 hits you with what the season will be about. Barry, Better Call Saul, The Boys were like that this year. Difference is the Boys gave us 3 episodes at the start. So at your leisure by the time you knocked those out you're deep into it. Personally I just like at least having a sense of what the season will be about when it starts. This is probably more a "me" problem because I have anticipation and excitement about a show being back after a while. I probably need to learn to temper expectation on returning shows, they don't have as much of a need to have that grip it and rip it first episode that they'd have when the series started. |

Dear HBO,
It's 2022, so why the **** are you still airing these expensive shows of yours in 1080p/sdr/5.1? |

So I haven't watched any more of West world since finishing S1, I tried scrolling back in this thread to see what you think of S4 so far but thanks to all the off topic rambling I can't actually tell what you guys think of the new season so far.
So I'll ask clearly: based on what you've seen in S4 so far, do you think it's worth me picking up where I left off and power through S2 and S3 or is it not worth my TV watching time? Sent from my KB2005 using Tapatalk |

I liked S3 but it's a hit or miss with OT and critics. You'll find out early on if S3 is for you, I thought the showrunner showed guts taking it where they did. Haven't watched S4 cuz my cheap arse won't pay unless there's a sale.

It's a far cry from the lowest common denominator Marvel and SW series. I'm to the point where I just can't watch any of that crap any longer. Mainstream hot garbage. There is actual thought into the writing of Westworld. Get this, some actual intelligence! The series makes you think, makes you keep up, occasionally reaching to the web for some minor explanation of events or something you forgot in a past EP. I'd read a recap of S1 if you can as a refresher then tear into it. I had to read a recap of S3 since it's been a couple of years but a long web page of detail and I'm back in it. I'm sure that is rare too these days***8230;people actually reading a lengthy recap that takes 30 minutes. Anyway, best sci fi series out there. The buildings, and sets are amazing. Vehicles are as well. It's very well written, directed, acted, and produced. It's just extremely complicated at times. I miss the nudity of the earlier seasons too. World has changed since then and I think that is outlawed now. |

Lots of reveals. I assume we're seeing at least 2 timelines...so far.

So a good time to jump in now? I'm finally binging S3 of The Boys and was thinking of what I should catch up on. I do miss Westworld at its high points. Great actors, even if the stories are sloppily told.

I would say so. Best ep I think since season 1 - got back to the shows strengths. Season 3 was kinda meh and basically a bridge. So far season 4 is delivering in spades |

Yep, that had me eyes wide open.
I would say they are setting up for this to be the final season as it all appears to have lead to today’s episode. |

Agreed! The three separate S4 stories were okay but they were starting to drag. Not anymore! Feels like they just gave the show an adrenaline shot!

I'm just over the multiple time lines. It was awesome in season one, but by now I'm just over that "twist".

Yup I'm not crazy about the multiple time lines and guessing game. It was fun in season 1, but season 2 I was very meh about it. Having said that, for the most part season 4's multiple time lines is a lot easier to follow (so far), and so I've been OK with it. But would prefer they stick to linear moving forward now.
So Hale is still an evil variant of Dolores right? |

We have not started it yet, but the Mrs. did ask why we are not watching it. Catching up other series is the root cause. Will start season 4 soon.
