Default Engine swap options? For 09 Subaru impreza

Ok so I'm new to this forum, and to the subie life. I just bought a 2009 Subaru impreza 2.5i 4 door 5 speed manual. It has a rod knock. So my options are, from what I've found this far, get the original 2.5i(EJ25) $1799or the 2.0L(EJ20) $750 because it's a direct fit and $1k cheaper.<not sure how true this is.
So what I need to know, because I'll be swapping this weekend, is if the EJ20 is actually a direct fit? And since I'm taking the motor out if changing the clutch kit would be a good idea and would I only have to remove the engine to do so?
I need help guys, I'm very mechanically inclined but never worked on a Subaru. PLEASE HELP! ASAP

Depends on if the EJ20 is turbo or not. If it's an NA engine, it should be almost a direct drop in. There is more to engine codes than EJ20 or EJ25- the year of the engine matters as well. Sorry I didn't see this sooner, I'm not around here as much as I used to be.

From my research, It's the same platform and as long as you use an engine for the same transmission, and get the proper brains (ECU) for the new engine you should be fine.
I think Ej20 is more fuel efficient and doesn't have head gasket problems as often as the Ej25 has.
You should make sure tho, that the engine is indeed for the same year, and just to be sure ask a place that does those swaps.
