WRX's most common problem .... way to remedy it?
Hesitation, jerky motion.... most noticeably in low gears.... what can be done to remedy WRX's most common/major problem beside ECU reset, ground mod, which seem to work only temporarily. Can WRX be driven as smooth as let's say Acura CL-S 6sp?

$750 for 40hp and new found smoothness doesn't really seem expensive. But, I know what you mean.

My car runs smoother than ever now that there are no cats. An uppipe was the first thing I installed in my car and it seemed to have smoothed things out a bit on my mostly stock car. Maybe you should try a different brand of gas. I use Sunoco 94. Hope this helps

looking at your specs in your sig, an uppipe will help you out in terms of driveability. you using an mbc? a better boost controller would help also - but might as well go with engine management because it's really not that much more

if the MBC/EBC is causing the problem, i would recommend the Vishnu EMI adapter. it smoothed out the low rpm lean condition "jerkiness" for me. also, if you are running higher than stock boost, a catless uppipe is always a good idea.

IIRC, I've heard lightened crank pulley's also help the jerkiness. Pls correct me if I'm wrong.

I usually notice jerkyness when the car isn't warmed. The only other times I get it is in the 60% throttle changeover from ECU to UTEC operation. In some situations when I'm trying to smoothly apply throttle and gradually increasing application it will make the changeover abruptly and kinda jerks the car. -Bolster

STI tranny and motor mounts make the jerkiness much less. Because there is much less slop, the engine torque gets transfered into forward motion much more efficiently instead of engine slopping to a stop and then the car moving.

I have an ECUTek reflash, an up-pipe and a pulley. I still get a "jerking motion."
Maybe it's just part of the character of the car, one of the comprimises that we make for this level of performance at $25K. Just a guess... |

I also have a jerkiness in 1st and 2nd gear with lightened crank pulley. Anyone out there with a WRX that drives as smooth as let's say Lexus ES300?

Figured I add that I have the reflash as well and the jerkiness is still there... although not as bad as before when I had my unichip and avc-r controlling things.

IMO, another way to minimize the jerkiness is just use your gas pedal more gently... |

werd! uppipe, downpipe, pulley, STi motor, tranny and pitch(useless) mounts. The mounts really make the car a pleasure to drive.
