Did the big 200 k service over the weekend with my bros help. All new Nippon-branded, water pump, timing belt, tensioner, pulleys and seals.

Eliminated another previous owner mistake in the process too. Wanted to re-seal the oil pan as it was leaking a bit. Picked up another oil pan and installed a new Russel fitting and line for the turbo's return line. Had to flatten the pan a bit and remove a bit of a baffle inside, but doesn't leak and still able to get at the oil filter.

Didn't take a before pick but there was a piece of copper turbing before somehow forced into a hole in the oil pan. Someone also kinked the tube, twice, getting it to bend the 90*.

While the oil pan was out also installed some Megan Racing engine mounts.

really? why did it take so long?

only took me like 20 minutes to do all the pedals..

how did you install the gas pedal? from what i remeber, the brackets were different, so i just took the bracket off the wrx pedal and put the "guts" into the RS bracket

It was just a tight squeeze between the gas pedal at that 'wall' getting the pin and spring out and back in...

Went to change the shift boot as it was wearing and becoming fuzzy. Wanted something different then factory, and found black leather/blue stitching boot intended for a newer STI.

Went to change it and found that only 2 of the 8 studs to clip the boot to were remaining (thank you previous owner... still). I actually had no idea how it was even hanging on haha

So after some brainstorming and even a (I'll admit) failed duct tape attempt, I broke off what was left of each stud and drilled holes in their place. This way spacing and mounting would be even. Put some nice stainless bolts through and one-at-a-time, poked holes in the boot. The previously failed duct tape attempt helped as it didn't wreck the leather while poking.

Tightened it up and I really like how it turned out, looks industrial. And removal/replaceable if ever need be.

My electric fuel pressure gauge died and felt it wasn't worth the cost to replace it in my setup.

So bought a mounting cup, moved the oil pressure gauge out from the centre dash and picked up a dash pocket in its place. I think I'll paint the bolts on the cup black eventually...

And put a mechanical gauge in the regulator under the hood.

I went to remove the EGT gauge this weekend, and turns out the previous owner had it wired directly to the battery this entire time... always had a sneaky suspicion that there was electrical draw somewhere...

After almost 8 years, there's still surprises it seems

Nothing too exciting recently, just waiting for the better weather to do more changes.

Had to do a bit of an emergency repair over the weekend though. Early last week the belts were squeaking, so I snugged up the belts a bit but still squeaking. I popped the hood and the outside ring of my crank pulley was wobbling like a dish.

I needed a crank pulley and went with a new one from the dealer as they had it on the shelf and ironically cheaper then anywhere else.

The rubber between the 2 rings on the crank pulley looks like it just wore out.

New pulley, bolt, belts and breaker bar; and a borrowed torque wrench later she's smooth again.

New handbrake boot! Matches my shifter which also doesn't sag now and (had to) do the bolt thing like I did at the shifter (plastic posts/pegs were all but broken off by the previous owner...)

Special thanks to Zealous Interiors! Andrew's the only person I could find who makes a boot that replaces the rubber cover.

(That hole is from the previous owner's alarm LED. I finally decided to rip it out; a dash kit will be on it's way shortly...)

Vicky's showing a few signs of of the not-so-great paint Subaru chose to go with on GC's. Mainly it's the clear coat actually, so not necessarily the paint itself...

A re-paint of the car isn't exactly a priority right now, so I took a gamble and for the time being I ordered some real car paint in a spray can online that stated it's a one-stage application as it already has clear coat built/mixed in.

I did a test on one of the hood vents Sunday and turned out better then I had thought! The confident was flowing so decided to tackle the big eyesore I've had since I bought the car, which has only been getting worse.

No, that's not the reflection of the clouds unfortunately. That's where clear coat has been slowly flaking off speck by speck over the years.

But I'm satisfied with how it turned out. The colour's spot on and the paint was fairly easy to work with. There's a bit more orange peel the factory, but I'm not a painter/bodyman but any stretch of the imagination and don't proclaim to even try and pretend to be one. But it dried very smooth and has lots of gloss. The metallic amount is the same as factory. Not bad for something literally done in the driveway (which I'm not above admitting), $86 for 3 cans; shipped, and in an afternoon. It took more time to mask things off then anything else.

I'm going to tackle another panel, a section of one of the doors from a previous neighbour repeatedly opening their door into mine and the bumpers. I think I'll look up on how to try and minimize the orange peel before I do, but otherwise I'm content with this fix for the time being.

Where did you get the spray cans from online? i have the same problem as you - my hood scoop has peeled off almost completely and I'd like to fix it along with covering up a few scratches here and there

Check out eBay seller spraycansunlimited http://myworld.ebay.com/spraycansunlimited/
They don't always answer all your questions, so just find your paint code and order. They're able to ship up to 3 cans for cheap using USPS. More then that and they use UPS and shipping skyrockets...

It was a very tedious 2 hours, but these are the only cables you see of the grounding kit. Very curious to see the difference it'll make...

Not the greatest pic, but finished the install of the new head unit last night. It's gonna be a bit weird not carrying around a faceplate for the first time...
