Lightbulb Strange noises from brakes explained.

After my first track day I started to hear strange noises from my brakes. When I was cruising they were making a noise and it was stopping when I pressed the pedal down a little.
Finally last weekend my brake pads were changed (with some help from two NASIOC members ) and the mistery was explained. The leftovers of brake material was separated from pads metal backplate on all four front pads. So when I did not apply brakes they were loose and touching my rotors making strange sound. The reason? Probably they overheated on the track.

I find this interesting,a have a couple questions.
1How many miles on the brakes.
2How hard were you running the brakes at the track, was it a break demanding track.
3 Was there still meat left on the pad and just figured to replace since they were off.
4How did the rotors look after that kind of heat up.
5,Finally,What pads did use for replacement
and were they a bitch to do.I always do my own brakes and was wondering about takling
those Brembo's,never did brakes like these before. Also did you break in your brakes before you got to the track. Thanks Matt!
ps could you just replace the metal backs or are they part of the pads?

Little over 5K when replaced.

Two drivers at Gingerman so every hour it was going 40 minutes. This track is quite hard on brakes cause they have no time to cool down.

Nope. After this I did some more track days. Replaced cause they were almost gone.

Good. Rotors are in a really good shape.

I used Ferodo DS2500. They look good so far. I think better then previous ones. But I need to go to the track to judge better. My friend was doing the swap itself and he had a small problem with one caliper (i did not go back) but he figured it out and everything was actually nice and smooth IMO.

I did. These Brembos are easier then WRX brakes.

Do you mean metal platesbehind pads? We kept them.
I can not imagine you could talk about metal backplates cause these are part of every pad.

Have you had time to assess the dust situation yet? Any more or less than stock?

For now I think there is less dust on wheels. But I worked late and it was dark so I am not completely sure how much less.
