It cannot be a lemon if its inherently prone to fail. The timing belt tensioner was designed by an idiot. The new version just released is a better design. It only took FOUR YEARS for this upgrade.
I know several people who had new turbos installed, even as last as last month on a New Beetle. I can go on... but I'll never own a turbo VW/Audi again. |

Maybe he's getting a Passat GLX V6 4-Motion wagon? Or maybe the new Jetta wagon? (I think you can get them with 4-Motion too.) Mmmm... Wagons are yummy!

I hope he got either the 8V or the VR6.
The 1.8T is -not- a long-haul engine. |

My A4 was a 1.8T engine.
It'll make 300hp, but expect it to last a few months. Mine blew apart. When I traded it, it was on its 3rd head, 2nd timing belt and tensioner. |

You know, there was a time that I thought the Golf or Jetta was a pretty nice car but after talking to Jay a couple of times about them, I will never own a VW/Audi... too many other options for power and fun.... I would really listen to Jay, he knows what he is talking about.

But--
I have no problems with the NA engines. The VR6 is a nice powerplant. I just looked at the Jetta wagon on VW.com-- $19k for a V6 wagon. Nice. And it looks like 4motion might be available with the automatic. Overall, the Jetta wagon isn't a bad little car. Now, if I could get that Jetta with the Subaru reliability -and- service, AWD with a manual tranny, and chipless paint, I'd be set!! |

Lovely how rumors start. Yes, I talked to David at European Car...Alex was busy. Nothing's final with Subaru, but yes, a Wolfsburg Edition Jetta, chipped with a Quaiffe in the front, rear sway, and Neuspeed springs sounds nice...I'm not committing to anything at this point, but the Jetta is one car I'm looking into upon resolution one way or the other.
The WRX is too. Officially, nothing is resolved, however. I'm just looking around. Test drove a new Mazda Protege hatchback...doesn't mean I'm gonna buy it... -Geoff |

How'd yoo like the Protege5?
Its only 130hp, but it looks pretty nice. If they put that 160hp Miata engine in there, they'd have a winner. |
