Default need some help.

I have a feeling this might get interesting. My son has a 2012 Impreza and the transmission went out today. I have an 02 wrx that im looking to 6 speed swap the 5mt is still in good shape. Would it be possible to swap the 5mt into the 2012? keep in mind I'm ok with pulling suspension and everything.

The 02 gearbox is the worst AWD manual box Subaru sold in the US - I would avoid reusing it even if it is technically possible.

The 02 box is pull style and I believe the 2012 NA is push, so you'd need to convert that, the bolt pattern to the flywheel between the pull and push clutches is different.

Getting axles to line up will be another hurdle as it's unlikely the 02 axles with work in the 2012 and the 2012 axles almost surely won't fit into the 5MT.

I assume your 2012 is an auto? That makes things even more of a PITA.

Could you do it? Sure, with enough time and spare/custom parts.

Will it slide right in without much work? No.

Oh i know the 5MT is a glass box I've seen several in many of pieces over the years. I am honestly not sure how mine is still in one piece. I've tried breaking mine just so I can have an excuse to do a 6-speed swap and not end up in a divorce over it. I know you can swap a 2012 6 speed into a bugeye I just wasn't sure how much difference there would be in the base Impreza vs the wrx/sti.

You can swap most subaru parts around, the issue is how much time, money, and effort it takes.

This would not be a direct swap.

These two points are both wrong but I agree with it being more work than it's worth.

You're saying his auto 2012 axles with fit the 02 box natively? Or that his 02 axles will swap over?

The bolt patterns are different, even though they are visually similar. FlatironsTuning confirms in post #5 of this thread.
