Question Brake light problems...

I did a search and didn't find any info on this problem.

Opened the door to the garage and noticed a funky red glow coming from the back of my car. The stinkin' brake lights were on!!! They had been on since about 7 last night! As soon as I tapped them, they went off.

Noticed that there is about a second delay for them to go off when driving too. Haven't had them stay on while driving.

I did have this problem a few weeks ago, but didn't think anything of it. Now it's got me concerned.

No other brake related problems. The car still stops fine, even after hard driving.

Anybody have a clue or suggestion? Please help!!

Adam

There is typicaly a switch that contacts the brake peddle arm close to where it pivots up under the dash. The plunger on the switch is pushed in by the arm when your foot is off the brake peddle, opening the contacts in the switch. When you put your foot on the brake, the arm moves away from the switch, causing the contacts inside the switch to close, and the lights come on. The switch is probably adjusted too far from the brake peddle arm so that the contacts in the switch don't always open when you release the peddle. There is probably a lock nut that you loosen, and then you can turn the switch so that it is closer to the arm. Just don't move it too close, or the lights may not come on soon enough.

By the way, the above description is based on a typical car. I've not actually looked at the Impreza system though.

Adam,
Go see Bruce at Performance. I know it's my answer to everything, but I doubt they'd charge you for fixing it, 'specially since (I think) your car is still under warranty.
Lemme know how it goes, duder.

I'd say Nigel is right on the money.
But if the car's still under warranty, let someone else contort themselves up under the pedals!
