Default What is going on with these 04 STI Wheels?

Just bought an 09 FXT with the 04 STI oem BBS wheels. As you can see, there's some nasty, ugly rust going on in the lug nut seats.

Are these replaceable?

If so, what's the part number? Where can I source these inserts? I see that ARP sells these inserts and some eBay vendors do as well but I need the dimensions/specs.

Anyone replaced these before?

That is ugly. Didn't know you could source inserts. Run it by member t3hclap.

I would check with a shop that does wheel reconditioning. I have noticed that the lug seats seem to be painted on refinished wheels- maybe for this very reason?

I think I can't be the only one with this issue.

Same here. I’d try sanding/scuffing them, and then brushing on a coat of clear. As long as they’re steel, the rust will always come back, due to the seats making contact with the socket/tool.

His name is Drew and he is the expert on wheels and fitment. He may have a different name here. I searched his Blog and Webpage and it is currently down. I'll send him a message to find out what is going on. I do know he is hard at work on his brick and mortar operation Penguin Garage, so that might be a reason the Blog and Webpage are not available.

Now I don't feel so bad but I do for the both of us. I haven't had a chance to take off the wheels to observe it closely. Do you recall it looking like it's something that can be pressed out and replaced with a new one?

Thank you, I appreciate the assistance. I tried to look him up in the members list but didn't find him.

I brushed/sanded mine and then repainted/clear coated over when I refurbished my wheels and the rust in the PNW hasn't returned

so your solution was to treat and then paint over them as you recoated your wheels?

use petroleum jelly to clean it out then you could put a clear coat on it to protect it....

Edit; congrats on the new ride!

thanks! started a journal over on subaruforester.org. funny how I decided to do it for the new Forester but not my beloved wagon. Probably because I know how useful keeping a journal can keep me on track with projects lol.

I wouldn't worry about it. Fasha appears to just be a spammer who wants people to go to the site they link in just about every post they make.
