Help Finding Rims for 02 Impreza Outback Sport
So I have just installed a new exhaust into the car and I want something to complement the sound. So getting new rims was next on the list. I've spent a while looking at all sorts of different rims. I've looked at a few different types from japan. They were 17x7 et48-et50. I think they were called something like Yokohama AVS Model 7's. Then I've been looking at 17x7 et42 Rota Grids. I thought that those might look nice. But I wouldn't mind a outside opinion on what I should get. I want something that is going to be nearly flush with the stock fenders and would look good without lowering the car since I live in Colorado. I am pretty sure I want 17" rims though.

First of all, higher or lower will depend mainly on tire size.
You can use 15, 16, 17, 18, etc. inch wheels, and keep the relatively same ride height buy staying with the same size overall diameter tire that originally came with the car. Also, by staying with the same overall diameter, you won't affect your odometer. The next question is how wide a wheel do you want? If you stay no larger than a 7.5" width, you will stay under the wheel well. On my 02 WRX, I run 17x8 +48mm with a 225/45 17 tire. Stays under the wheel well but that is as wide as I would go before you start encountering problems with rubbing. If you want a 17x8 +48mm wheel, the simplest thing to do is look for 2004 STi wheels. These have the correct bolt patter as you have ( 5x100 ) and will fit. Now, if you want to stick with the same tire size you have now, which I presume is OEM size, then stick to the same size wheel and you will have zero issues. You have many options for wheels. Actual choice is what looks best to YOU, not someone else so pick what YOU like. I have rota wheels and had zero issues. Good wheels at a decent price. |

Cool, so I think I've found what I'm looking for, now I just have to try to find somewhere selling them. Does anybody know where I might be able to buy some 17x7.5 5x100 et48 Rota SDRs. Preferably in gold but any color will do depending on the price. I have tried looking all over the internet, but it seems everywhere is out of stock, or in the UK.
Any Information would be helpful. Thanks. |

I would get a real set of wheels and not reps. Look at 57dr/cr 17x8.5 or 9 imo. Much better than reps and not that much more.

8.5” - 9” wide wheels are not going to fit your Impreza wagon without rolling fender and possibly using spacers and extended lugs depending on the offset. You have make sure the tires clear the struts and you will want to be careful when steering lock to lock to not chew up the inside of the front tires. I’ve run a 18x8.5 48+ wheel on my 2005 wagon with 245/40/18 tires. It required rolling the rear fenders flat and the use of a 3mm spacer to clear the rear struts. Inside of front tires got damaged over time from rubbing at lock to lock pulling in and out of tight spaces. 7.5” wide wheels with 48 offset should fit without having to roll the fenders with a 215 or 225 tires. 8” wide wheels with 48 offset and 225 tires will sometimes clear without having to roll the rear fender but sometimes rolling is necessary. You can find Rota wheels on wheeldude.com Ignore people telling you to buy “real wheels” Rota wheels for average street use are fine. |
