I forgot who was asking about the phone with NFC and Nougat +, but the Verizon (unlocked) LG V20 is only $280

The unlocking process changes with every phone now. It's an absolute cluster. For a company that supposedly offers a simple apply and unlock system, it couldn't be more of a pain in the ass. This past year I was reading about people needing to buy/fabricate a special deep flash cable to do it. Then they block that. Use EDL mode. Now they blocked that. Simple adb commands like on the Mi4C? Nope. It seems like every solution that is found is shut down and they make it harder and harder. Don't even get me started on all of the Chinese forums, .exe's and versions of junk people suggest worked for them.

Dat feeling when you finally get TWRP on your Xiaomi doe

And yea, I never buy phones upon release. I wait until the price drops and I can gauge the dev community.

I think I've stumbled on the holy grail of cheap-ass android devices.

I found this thing on Amazon:

https://www.amazon.com/LeEco-Unlocke...4139966&sr=1-1

5.5" 1080P display
Snapdragon 652
Adreno 510
3GB RAM
32GB Storage
USB-C
Qualcomm QuickCharge 3.0
Fingerprint sensor
Mostly metal construction
Camera that's not great but better than your average potato (even records 4k)

...for the grand sum of $139 unlocked with no Amazon ads or anything.

wtf is the catch?

There's actually 2 catches: the software sucks (it's a terrible bloated version of Android 6.x with some weird ass ecosystem baked it) and the capacitive buttons are stupid and backwards.

BUT... I noticed that this phone is only branded as "S3" in the USA, it's actually an X522/S2 everywhere else... and the latest nightlies of Lineage OS are available for the X522...

So I took the plunge and ordered it, booted it up to the crappy OS for just long enough to turn on the option to allow the bootloader to be unlocked, rebooted it to fastboot, sent the unlock command, installed TWRP, flashed LOS and GAPPS, turned off the capacitive buttons and enabled the on-screen ones, and 20mins later I've got a pretty sweet little phone for super cheap

Just picked up a Google Home speaker yesterday and hooked it up to TV, tried it out, learned rudimentary control of my Chromecast. But currently googling for higher level controls tips and tricks on the device.

Anyone own one and have any nifty tricks or hidden functions to share?

You can ask it to add items to your grocery list.

man...Since Oreo, my Pixel XL's battery has gone to absolute ****. I can't even make it through a normal day without having to charge. I fear having to wipe and restore because it's such a pain in the ass, but it may be my next step in trying to fix this.

Every update promises battery enhancements. Every update ruins some devices. The Pixel XL on Oreo should not be one of them.

The LG V30 is sounding like a great device (even though it won't ship with O). But I recall a lot of people with LG phone problems. Has the recent V20/G6 been problematic as well?

Anyone ever have an issue where all the paired bluetooth devices get deleted? It has happened twice in two months or so now. Using a Pixel, first time was Nougat, second time on Oreo.

You know what Im asking, Im not familiar with a Google 'grocery list' feature. So you verbally add stuff to said list, where does it display? On the Google Home or google assistant app?

Oh ok

It used to store it in keep but now it stores it in Google Express' shopping list, which is very stupid. You can access it through the home app. You can still share the list with people so it's not terrible but it was a dumb move to get you to use Google Express.

We mostly use our Google homes for adding items to our shopping list, play music and tell us the weather in the morning. The first two alone were worth the cost to us.

If you have more than one cast audio device you can set them up as a group to have them both play music, synced.

Speaking of which, they announced a few new Google Assistant devices, Sony has a fancy one for $200 that looks like the Apple Homepod and had a nifty clock built in, neat.

Thanks, burying the grocery shopping list in the app like that sounds super clunky. Would be great if it could sync with something simple like Google Keep, which already has a shopping list feature. I use that widget all the time.

The catch? The company is going under. Buy it and expect zero updates and support.

I have one of their TVs, which is great actually.

Rumor of early October announcement. Then probably ship in November. Seems to be the standard timeframe for them over the years.

Don't care, my updates come from LOS now

I've already gotten an update since I flashed it yesterday

And I haven't needed support on a device since... well, ever

It's just a website so you can just create a shortcut on your home screen, it's what I did.

This. You get better support from devs for free than the bastards you give hundreds of dollars to. My old ass N4 is running LOS 7.1.2 like a champ.

It use to sync with Keep but for some ****ing reason, they took it out and it's pissing me off.

Anyways..

You say watch <inter show> from Netflix to TV. It'll play the most recent episodes/season you're watching.
-You can say pause/play
- FF or Rewind <say how many seconds>
- Next episode

You can use it a cooking timer.

You can sync multiple G-Home as a music speaker

Controlling Philips Hue / Nest

You can make call to anyone in Canada & US for free. Your number will show Private and you can't receive incoming calls from it.

You can check to see what's the traffic like going to <enter location>

It supports multi user, so you can have your calendar and your SO's calendar and when you ask what's in your agenda today, it will recognize your voice and just give your agenda.

You can use it as an alarm clock but the sound is ****ing annoying. I like softer alarm sounds.

You can play games. "Hey Google, Play games"

FYI, if you're looking to buy multiple google home, wait until they release 3rd party speaks with Google assistant. I personally have 2 Ghomes and it's pretty good so far.

Yeah I have 2 Homes also. Use them daily. Use them for my Hue lights and Nest. Haven't done any IFTTT yet though.
